Re: All traffic?

To his credit, he could have had multiple connections open to the same FTP server thus resulting in a higher overall bandwidth in some situations. But he wasn't.

Sad part is that article states all TCP traffic, FTP *IS* TCP... right?

I merely asked a question *BECAUSE* I was using a TCP application and didn't notice any issues.
Posted monitors showing that speeds were fine.
All you have been doing is, tro... never mind!

Have a great day friend!

I'm arguing with you because you seem to think that by presenting a chart of your bandwidth that means something to the news article. Like I said, it doesn't. It has little meaning, if any, to the present issue at hand, and the entire reason you made your original comment was so you could show everyone how cool you are with your m@d powerboost bandwidth that lasts 30 seconds, and how you beleive the news articles presented issue, is not affecting you.
How wrong you are...
What you see is sustained speeds - not PowerBoost.
My PowerBoost goes to 35mbps...

News article states "All TCP traffic", FTP *IS* TCP traffic, right?
Monitors are to show that TCP(FTP) is doing quite well here.
So, article's claim that "All TCP Traffic" are getting forged RST packets appears false - hence why I asked in the first place.

I asked a question and you did nothing but try to ridicule me.
Makes you look bad.

Whatever friend!
LMAO!

A.) Your question was answered in my first post.

B.) Before 2 edits to the post, you weren't even asking a question. You were flaunting around how fast and great comcast is. It was a statement, not a question.

Ok pal, take a GOOD LOOK at the original post time, and the original edit time, then look at YOUR original post time.

For the record, the edit was to add the upload monitor image(and to correct a typo).

Dadkins,

In this case, the Colorado.edu researchers are sending 100 bogus connection requests (TCP SYN) per second, then observing that RSTs are being forged to interrupt non-bogus requests that occur amid the bogus requests.

It's hard to apply this finding to ANYTHING that occurs normally on a network, so it's hard to care. It does apply to the Blaster worm, which in DDOS mode will pound a single IP address with SYNs, and in Spreading mode it will SYN hundreds of random addresses trying to find more victims.

And, in one interesting test run, one of their bogus connection requests actually got an SYN,ACK. Perhaps it got routed to a honeypot? Or maybe their vendor's forgery scheme is buggy.

Should it send an RST? Probably not. (Please, vendors, take your products to the IETF; ISPs, please don't buy products that aren't adopted Standards.)

Should customers care? Not unless they find something that points to a usage scenario.

Ok, when you surf, are you pulling ?hundreds? of connections over one port?
One of the suggestions that I have the Colorado.edu team was to replace the SYN flood with the task of fetching some image-heavy web pages. See if that brought on the RSTs.

Even if it does, though, it's probably an anti DDOS device that is set a bit too sensitively.

No, that is from the 200MB of browser cache... set that high for just this type of situation!

Beginning to think I may have to start saving my posts as screenies for proof, huh?

Not everyone on this forum is as naive as you like to think. Everyone but a few knows what the real intent of that post was.
