You can install a Trojan if you're looking for something that does the same thing as Peerguardian.

Why do you equate Peerguardian w/ a trojan?

Because they both don't do any good to your computer..

Peer Guardian does not work. Get rid of it.

Hence the "alts to..."
I appreciate helpful suggestions,
but because it's your opinion something does not work, does not mean you can label it a Trojan.
I need a blocklist that has generated updated list I can add to for a home community computer.

It doesn't friggin do anything, what part of that do you not get? It's a useless app that blocks legit websites and legit servers it's been proven to be crap many times.

A copy and paste from another forum because this thread blows

a) They have your IP address, preventing them from connecting to you doesn't change anything from a legal standpoint.
b) The blocklists are public submitted information, full of overly wide banmasks, legitimate IPs, and the like. Just as there are legitimate IPs on the list there are illegitimate IPs not on the list.
c) Since the blocklists are freely available to anyone they know exactly what IP ranges are on the list and what IP ranges are not.
d) There is nothing stopping them from using a outsourcing to another organisation with a different IP range.|
e) There is nothing stopping them from using a non-blocked, residential internet connection.

A false sense of security is worse than no security at all.

Fact: Anyone who actually relies on this is a moron

I laugh at anybody who uses peer guardian and acts proud of it.

Interesting reads, but it appears alot of those threads you have a direct role in.

But if that is all you base your Opinions on......*shrugs* Kids these days.

What are you talking about? Did you even click the links?
I have no direct role in any thread that is not part of this forum. I simply searched on google for you since you apparently need help doing so.

I don't get what's so hard in understanding that peer guardian doesn't do anything for you. It blocks IPs that can be easily changed by the **AA's.

Common sense eludes users of Peer Guardian.

If you're so keen on PG, then why don't you try defending it against the arguments presented here?

I think one of the strongest arguments is the one referring to residential IPs (which I've used many times in the past to argue against PG). What's stopping the RIAA from signing up with a residential IP, joining a torrent, and viewing all the peers currently downloading/uploading? Nothing. They can go ahead and log the users who have uploaded to them, and then fire off one of their notices to the ISP of the user.

What is PG going to do for you then? Are they going to ban every residential ISP out there? They would have to, wouldn't they? Every ISP could be helping the RIAA/MPAA, and not even know it.

Exactly. PeerGuardian and products like it are completely pointless, and won't protect you from getting busted by "The Man".

Here's an idea -- if you want to stay safe, don't use a filesharing medium which allows other users to capture your IP address and other information. AKA stop using torrents.

Thanks I already use such a filesharing medium, and have been using since before the days of Cello.
