On these profiles, your modem syncs at the fastest speed that it can under ADSL limits. I think that is up to 8192. So there is no DSLAM/RT cap, but the throughput speeds are throttled by their gateway routers. This is similar to the speed profiles of the rest of AT&T except that they make allowances for the ATM, TCP/IP, and PPPoE overhead so that you get throughputs that equal or exceed the sold speed.

What are some of the drawbacks of these MaxSync profiles? Well, if your modem has the least problem syncing, you automatically get stuck on an interleaved MaxSync profile which raises your latency. They also charge about $5/more per month than the AT&T-SBC equivalent speed plans. Their upload speeds are lower to the equivalent speed plans.

Now if AT&T instituted these MaxSync profiles everywhere, and you were able to sync at 8192, I think about 10% of that extra "sync" speed would have to be used for DSL bit swap capabilities to insure that your sync wasn't lost when your line had the slightest bit of disturbance. I am sure most could not see paying what I do for a full 6/1 with no PPOe over head. And I have kicked around switching to ATT. If you want faster and still wanna keep AT&T, you'll have to switch to U-Verse (fiber) if and when it becomes available in your area.
