the battery does indeed keep the phone lines working contrary to the previous poster.
it keeps the phone line(s) working during a power outage, however it does not power the phone itself -- consider that 99.999% of the time people are using a cordless phone which uses power from a wall outlet.. no power == no phone
When the power goes out, *NO* home phone service is of any use when one uses a cordless phone. -- Think outside the Fox... Opera
