[LA] What happened to the new upload speeds?

sudden speed decrease!
Suddenly the new upload speeds are down to almost half of the advertised 1.5mps.

Anyone know what is going on??

I upgraded a six year old motorola cable modem 4200 to a 5120. I saw no impressive "speed boost". I think it's just f'ing lies.

upload speeds good here and usually stay steady...checked from several different sites over this am...all results about the same...had 2 days of half speed uploads on march 26 & 27...fixed itself...

not trying to hijack your thread, but let me not miss an opportunity to ask about download speeds...I keep hoping to see more consistent performance on my 15/1.5 connection but am wondering if this is just the best performance available in my neighborhood...Do you get more consistent download speeds in your area?

Just checked again:

Download speeds are decent but my upload are now almost half of what I was getting before.

Not bad but I just wish Cox would provide consistent speeds they advertise and what I'm supposed to be paying for.

TigerNutz,
Please send your modem's HFC MAC address to user/Cox Rep "CCLA" via PM. He can make sure you are not experiencing a levels issue or some localized network issue.

*** Official Notice:
Be advised that by sending me or any other Cox Representative your cable modem's HFC MAC address you are giving me permission to access your account in order to gain more information and or to troubleshoot your reported issue. Your cable modem's HFC MAC address and phone number will be used as a secondary means of identification as per Federal Regulations.

Yours in service,
Charles, Cox New Orleans Engineering

Pardon my stupidity but where/how do I find my modem's HFC MAC address? I checked it and there are no less than 5 numbers on it.

Their should be a sticker on the side/back/bottom of the modem that has a list of MAC addresses. One of them will be called HFC or Cable MAC address.

Dont see any issues with levels. You're right on the money as far as levels. Got an Engineer working with me on it.

What speedtest server are you running these to and are you getting the same results to different ones ?

Thanks

Theres limited bandwidth on upstream/node. when everyones competing for upload, it takes fewer people uploading to impact others at higher upload rates.

You're testing on servers 300-750 miles away.. why not test locally??? You are introducing too many possible points for lag to rely on those results.

Typically the Dallas server is a good one to test from. Really there aren't many good test servers within 450 miles of here.

The Dallas servers give me great results from dfw.speakeasy.net. I tried their Atlanta, Georgia server, which usually is crappy for me but got decent results from it (I normally get 20-25 down!)

Last Result:
Download Speed: 10479 kbps (1309.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1615 kbps (201.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
