Whitehouse Station, NJ | HDMI HD Boxes for Pat Media I ordered service from Pat Media yesterday and it should be installed this Fri. I don't watch a lot of TV but wanted the "free" basic HD feed. I was told that I need to lease an HD box from them for $7 a month and then all of he HD content will flow to me at no extra charge.
However they said that their HD boxes are only DVI and Componant. From my understanding neither of these can broadcast in 1080p which is what my set can handle. They did say that the HDMI HD boxes were on order and there is a waiting list. So I had them put me on that list.
Anyone have any inside info as to when they should be avail? I would really like to get the video and sound digitally through HDMI hookup. I guess I will have to go with componant for now .....blah |

Somerset, NJ | I'm not sure that any channels are actually broadcasting in 1080p anyway, so you won't really lose anything by going with component.
i could be wrong on that, though. it happened once before...

I wish cable companies had a clue before they got into the business. DVI and HDMI share the same video specs. The only major difference is HDMI has extra wires for audio. Yes there are enhancements for 1080p and extra color (1.3a) but most of those are practically useless for those watching their budget.
If you have no interest in the DVR features, I would order an DVI/HDMI adapter here:

You will also need to feed audio to the TV. I can't help you with that as there are a few different options and that will depend on what you want to do with stereo equipment, digital audio, and/or surround sound. A little homework should point you in the right direction for that. |

I already have a DVI to HDMI adaptor ready to rip. I am planning on going that route and running the audio optical if the cable box allows. If not I will see how it can transmit the audio.
It would just make it so much easier to get the digital audio and vidio in the same wire. Unless there is an optical out it will result in analog sound with a digital picture. |
