Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry I didn't respond last night but got tied up replacing my kitchen faucet. One of those 40 minute projects that took me 3-1/2 hours. Once I got started I decided to replace the flexible pvc supply lines with metal ones so off to the hardware store to buy those. Then decided I probably should replace the shut-off valves as well. When I tried to unscrew the hot water shut-off the pipe snapped of at the threads so I had to go back to the hardware store and get a couple of new brass nipples . Well, anyway that projest is done .
Now back to the original problem:
I think I'll just install the smaller 5000-6000BTU units into the windows and cut a board just long enough to hold the window down against the unit so it doesn't fall out and so nobody opens the window by mistake.
I'm still not real sure what to do with the larger unit. I'm guessing it weighes about 80 lbs or so. I'm thinking about maybe having my neighbor (pretty handy, has a nice little shop does welding, fabricating, etc.) make me some type of bracket that will permanently attach to the house underneath the window so that I can just open the window, slide the AC unit onto this bracket then close the window against the AC. Should be pretty easy to assemble and then wouldn't have to put any holes into the window frame at all. |
