| reply to CanadianISP This is excellent, folks. One of the biggest problems in society today is people complaining about policies and laws which they *could* have made a difference by talking to their elected representatives or to the agency responsible, but chose not to.
Each time someone lets the CRTC know their thoughts, it is making it plain that this is not an issue that "only affects a small number of people".
If you've already made a submission to the CRTC, that's great - The next step is to talk to your friends and colleagues and ask them to do the same thing - After all, it affects them, too. -- Marc Bissonnette Chief BOFH »www.canadianisp.com |

| reply to CanadianISP Done, though just today I received an email from the CRTC in response to my earlier letter. It reads, in part:
"The CRTC does not regulate the retail rates or quality of service provided by Internet service providers (ISPs) to their end customers. I therefore suggest you contact your ISP directly regarding your concerns if you have not already done so."
I'm sure this will help, but how much? |

Comments: I support the CAIP filing against Bell Canada. I feel that Bell's recent throttling actions are in direct contravention of the spirit and letter of telecommunications law in Canada. I urge the CRTC to provide immediate relief to the independent Canadian ISPs whose businesses have been negatively affected by Bell's unfair, unethical, and in my humble opinion, illegal actions. Bell's throttling of independent Canadian ISPs who are its wholesale customers is, in my opinion, a direct affront to GAS and the Federal Telecommunications Act. Canadians demand net neutrality now! I demand that the CRTC act in good faith and uphold Canadian law and its own past CRTC rulings. Bell is a common carrier and should not use its privileged position as an unfair competitive advantage over small Canadian ISP businesses. |

| said by ultracat :...and in my humble opinion, illegal actions. Something illegal is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of law. Unless you know specific laws or law cases that should prevent Bell from doing what it is doing, there is nothing illegal here until a judge says otherwise.
I sent my letter to the CRTC. My main angles: 1) Bell's throttling is interfering with VoIP services which compete with Bell's phone services, sometimes to the point of rendering them unusable 2) non-throttled internet access is one of the few key differentiating factors between Bell's Sympatico and Bell's wholesale partners
Bell's throttling is effectively killing at least two competitive birds with one stone. |
