Ya, covering it the blanket will fry it regardless of brand. I leave mine on for 8-10 hours a day, as I've sold my desktops and it's all I have left for work. The cooler is cheap insurance, and certainly won't hurt. When I travel I don't take it (cooler) with me, but don't run the lappy for extended periods either.
