| [netopia] Netopia 3347-021006 DSL Modem/Router
One of our locations is going with Bellsouth DSL and they just got the Netopoia 3347 delivered. We also purchased a block of 5 static IP's of which will be assigned to different printers.
This is what I am wanting to know. Can I use the 3347 for both the static IP's and private IP's? There will be around 9 computers of which I want to assign private IP's to like 192.168.x.x along with 4 printers that will have the static IP's. Or will I need to add a second router in the mix to do what I want?
If this can done can someone tell me the steps or point me in the right direction? I've read some help pages on the bellsouth site and netopia's but they all seem to steer you to doing all public IP's or all private IP's and not a mixture of both. Thanks! |

| see »Cayman Routers »[BellSouth] How do I configure my Cayman for 5 Static IPs? you assign them private static IPs and then create an ipmap for them to have the public ips routed to them. your internal machines MUST use the internal private ips to reach them though, the 3347 nor BSFA do loopback. i hate that too, my other DSL conneciton here the provider will do the loopback and it is nice, and other sites i have they provide a routed subnet so you cna mix both behind the netopia without having to use a private ip on the stuff with public ones. -- Lack of Preparation on YOUR Part does NOT Constitute an Emergency on Mine! |

| reply to brettatk Thanks for the reply and link. It seems a little clearer now. I've never had to do the routing either. All I've had to do in the past is configure the device to the static IP, subnet, and gateway that I was given by my ISP. Hopefully everything will go smooth in the transition. |
