I'm having problems with mine as well. I'm in Clinton, IL and every day for the past several weeks I get these same time-outs. It can happen randomly, but it ALWAYS happens during peak hours at night, from 5/6ish to midnight every night. When I run a ping like you do it can be as bad as every other line is a timeout.

I play World of Warcraft online and during these hours I can get so fed up with this I am forced to quit for the night. It's impossible for online play when it times out so long it disconnects me or so often nothing can be done without lag. Normal game ms in WoW for me is like..40-100ms ( these numbers still happen but only during off hours like the early AM )but now that this is happening 250ms is a good number. 700-2,000ms is where the game normally goes when this happens.

I'm thinking about calling them but if it's their issue I don't want to be charged to have someone come out and check my modem and not fix anything!

I live in Clinton as well. I have watched the speed test results drop and ping levels shoot up since December. Like you, I have no trouble during the weekday, it is only weekends and evenings that I have trouble, I have the 15/1 service and last night was getting less than I down and only 383k up. I have called in multiple times with no result other than the local tech finding out that the node I am on has way too many users on it. Fortunately I have been in touch with Bainch on these forums and he was able to help out, some time this week the node is suppose to be split up and hopefully things will get better. If your lucky maybe your on the same node and your problems will go away as well. Do call tech support, explain to them that your speed test results are way below what your paying for and get a credit issued. I have been calling for and getting a credit each month.

Yeah, I'll have to call and see if I can't get some credit as it is making it very difficult to enjoy the internet when I am here the most. I doubt I'm on the same node as you..:( not that lucky, lol.

How might I contact Bainch? ( extremely new here, as I have just found the site! ) I'd like to maybe see if maybe he can help me as well.

I have sent him a message to see if he can help you. I am not sure as to where the nodes are and how much area they cover, but I am on the east side of town, so if you are as well it could be the same node.

Well I am pretty much on the northern side. N Alexander street, kinda near the edge of town. Thank you for sending him a message, that was kind of you!

Well..yesterday It worked fine, after a weird disconnect the previous night that lasted awhile, I thought they may be fixing it. No disconnects at all the next day..no high latency either.

Thought..yay, It's fixed! ..but tonight I'm back to 2,000ms..Grr.

I have a quick question for you guys, I'm moving to heyworth soon and right now I have verizon DSL (3360/736) and they don't offer it in heyworth. From reading so far I feel Mediacom mainly for PS3 online gaming may not be the best option, would you agree?

I recieved a message from Bainch, he stated that the work is scheduled for Thursday night/Friday morning. I sent him another message asking if he could check to see if you are on the same node. He replied that he needs your MAC ID to find out. That would be found in your modems information, most likely at »192.168.100.1 The info needed is the HFC MAC address. Loock at the top of your screen to see if you got my Instant Message for a better way to contact me if you need help.

Unfortunatley, I don't think you have any better choice in Heyworth. Clinton, Wapella and Heyworth all had cable completly redone prior to internet service being offered a few years back, so except when nodes get full and you have to wait for them to be split it has been great in my opinion. In all that time I have had only one complete outage that I can remember (other than storms taking out power)and it was resolved quickly.

Well I don't know if Pontiac was affected or not, but Clinton had node splits Thursday night and my service has improved greatly. I also take care or the computers at a school that uses Mediacom, and the speed there is better now as well, only issue was the persistant IP address has changed due to the split and I have to reconfigue a couple of things, not a big deal though. Bainch deserves all the credit for this, as he (she?)is the only one that was willing to work with me and keep me up to date on what was going on. All Mediacom employees could take a lesson from Bainch on how things should be handled.

I think I'm having the same problem in Fairbury with the internet cutting out. I thought it might be something related to the voice mail upgrade over the weekend (I have phone, internet, and cable with Mediacom) but I restarted my modem and it's still doing it.

I like to listen to internet radio and usually it streams constantly without any problems but recently it cuts out for a few seconds every so often. At that same time that it's cutting out, I try to access a webpage and it just sits there and nothing comes up for a few seconds until the connection is restored again.

Can you tell me how I can ping my server or any other tests to actually see what it's doing? I hope they fix this problem soon, very frustrating. Thanks.

Pingplotter's Freeware version isn't bad for being free.

Yay, I am no longer a MCHSI butt buddy, but bianch still deserves a tip of the cap. If you are in IL get DSL, presuming you are within range of the hub.

I have had dsl for 2 months now, other then int problems with the fact my place never had phone or internet service. I have had the same pings and speeds and not a second of down time.

I pay 36 bucks for 1400/690 speeds, and 60-120 pings every where in the US. And that price is the internet only price. And in IL verizon has great prices and speed.

My rents still have mediacom, so I could point you to my old web page from ages ago. WHEN pings were in the 2000 range if you could get them, and DL speeds were 135/19 .hell sometimes less the 28.8 speeds. I would have plenty of tracking images but some poor person stole my lappy so I had to get a new one.

That and you had to deal with a HS drop outs coming to your house reaking like Cigs and not recognizing he was tromping his muddy feet over a expensive oriental rug.

What what what would you do?

So i found out from Mediacom that the DHCP server is doing reboots! No clear reason why it's doing this but they have someone new in telling them they should do this an that but apparently whoever the new person is, IS NOT VERY BRIGHT!
So as soon as i move into a different place gonna get verizon dsl had no problems with dsl 1 bit. Hopefully wont have any problems here with it. Right now, dial-up's startin to look good compared to this cable right now. Think i might switch to dial-up till then LoL..

I'm in Brewton, AL and I'm getting the same crap. It's almost like someone pulls the plug and then plugs it back in? I have an Xbox 360 and that can get pretty frustrating with the constant disconnects. I'd say it happens about every 5 minutes!

I went to 192.168.100.1 and clicked logs and it shows alot of this:

Time Priority Code Message
080506141543 7-Information 7 D511.0 Retrieved DHCP .......... SUCCESS
080506141543 5-Warning D03.0 DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response
080506141543 5-Warning DHCP: Renew: Missing Syslog server
080506141543 5-Warning D103.0 DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response
080506141543 5-Warning DHCP: Renew: Another TFTP server IP address
080506140043 7-Information 7 D511.0 Retrieved DHCP .......... SUCCESS
080506140043 5-Warning D03.0 DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response

I guess that confirms what ps1002 has stated? (I'm not sure exactly what the log means, but I would think that correlates with what he mentioned)

Any help here?
