| [ Cable] dns issues?
i have charter cable internet service and i'm using level3 DNS servers. for the past 3 days AOL seems to be taking over my DNS somehow. i have aol9 installed on my PC and usually keep it running to monitor incoming emails. the other day i mis-typed a URL in firefox and instead of getting the standard firefox 'server not found' message i got an AOL 'error: can't resolve address' screen and firefox connects to search.aol.com to display the page. once i close the AOL client firefox goes back to displaying the standard 'server not found' page. here are some pix of what happens w/ AOL open:
»members.aol.com/zaphod1100/aol-open1.png »members.aol.com/zaphod1100/aol-open2.png
and heres the same URL w/ AOL closed: »members.aol.com/zaphod1100/aol-closed.png
anybody have any idea what i can do to stop it? i've checked my network settings, DNS servers still reflect 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 when AOL is open but i've noticed that if i run ipconfig /all when AOL is open there is a PPP adapter listed w/ DNS server: 205.188.146.145 which i know is an AOL address. i just can't figure out why this is suddenly affecting my local area connection settings... -- »www.myspace.com/white_kenny |
