DSL?

Doesn't all your dsl traffic to/from telcos go over fiber once past the dslam?

Re: DSL?

so its not like FiOS is the first time verizon has been doing fiberoptics like the twc ad makes one to believe very misguiding

I believe it depends on the capability of the central office- most probably use fiber by now, but this wasn't always the case, and fiber-optics aren't necessarily a precondition for DSL.

Re: DSL?

CO's have been interconnected by fiber since the 80's, some as early as the late 70's, all back haul traffic is on fiber.

All Verizon dsl transport has been fiber since the begining-- everything leaving the COs has been fiber for a very long time.

There is p2p microwave links, coaxial cables, and if your insane enough bonded T1s with amplifiers every 10kft. Wouldn't be too surprised if some rural COs are powered by satellite (voice quality and dialup must royally suck).
