It is my alarm clock that wakes me up in the morning.

It is my flashlight in the middle of the night when I get up to pee.

It is my personal assistant offering daily reminders of memo's and appointments.

It downloads video and audio podcasts, can view youtube video, and is an RSS reader.

It is a 5MP digital camera with video recording at 640x480 30fps.

It is my portable gaming system with motion sensitive control capabilities.

It is a calculator and measurement converter.

It is a voice recorder.

It is a war driving WiFi scanner.

It is a portable USB hard drive with mass storage device recognition on any windows computer.

OH YEAH!!! The darned thing even makes and receives phone calls.

Newer cars from Ford, BMW, Mercedes, and VW have factory radios with built-in connectors for iPods and can even use the steering-wheel-mounted controls to operate the iPod when connected. an ipod touch for christmas and after messing around with it a bit,i just had to order a 160 gig classic.
i like the touch just fine but the 16 gigs didnt have enough room for just my music so i ordered the big boy.
i find it truly amazing that i can carry in the palm of my hand what would take many,many boxes of cd's or tapes.
and while the screens are very small,taking a few movies
or tv show is kinda cool for those long car rides.

Mine, hands down is a navigation system/GPS. Prior to that we used mapquest/mapblast but that could not be used once on the road. Prior to that, paper maps (ouch).

I knew a guy who ran a multi-line BBS on a TI99/4a, it had 4 incoming phone lines (from 2400 baud modems), two 360kb 5.25" floppy drives, and a cassette tape drive. He had custom written the BBS software, which even allowed chat between users who were logged on at the same time. I'm still amazed when I think about that setup.
