 | Union provided no details of Verizon ignoring contract disregard of the negotiated provisions of our collectively bargained agreement intended to ensure safe and secure working conditions And what exactly are those? The union gives no details and there haven't been any reports of safety problems in the news.
Is this just a lead-in to the unions tactics for the next union contract? -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page |

I think they are only referring to the secure part... I notice around here that they are contracting alot of fios work out... |

-VZ construction tech was electrocuted to death in March, 2007 in Providence, RI. Investigation was settled between OSHA and VZ, details were not provided, but pasrt of the settlement was that we ALL had to be re-educated in electrical and ladder safety. The worker's family is seeking civil damages against VZ and other parties
-VZ worker was elctrocuted in Plymouth, MA late last year. Investigation is ongoing.
The fact is, that local management is being pressured by upper management to get it done faster and cheaper, sometimes at the cost of safety. But ,yes, this is also a posturing maneuver. |

 | reply to LegoPower77 Ever wonder why mistakes are made in your bill that benefit the company?
There's your merit system right there. Pay someone more to get more for the company and they'll get more. |

While horrible, accidents by themselves are not proof that Verizon isn't fulfulling it's contract or that they are pressuring techs to do it faster and cheaper at the expense of safety. Even if a company provides it's workers with proper training and PPE there will still be ocasional accidents for a variety of reasons, including many that boil down to the individual involved.
The fact that you had to be re-educated on electrical safety leads me to believe the issue was more of an educational one than someone rushing to do their job.
Now if you are seeing a lot of techs fired for low productivity and able to make grievences stick, then you'd have good evidence of a disregard for safety. |
