Re: speed factory seems to be no more....

Well, I'm sorry to hear about all this. I have also been a longtime SpeedFactory user and noticed the decline after the past couple of years (since the merger). I just ordered atnex and will back up and running by monday (if not sooner).

I had 2 DSL accounts with them and since Fri 11AM been trying to get some answers, so I switched to ATNEX just now for both accounts, got my PPOE info and hope to be online by Monday. 3.5mb with Static ip, Open port and reverse DNS for 44.99

A reliable source at PAETEC (formerly US LEC), their (only) upstream provider, told me that PAETEC disconnected them for nonpayment of $64k. Couple that with the note on the door and their SEC filings, and I think you will realize that this is the end. Another company may buy their assets and what is left of the customer base, but I am switching to AtNex. They answered the phone at 11pm, are less expensive for the same service, and were very helpful on the phone. With luck, I'll have service no later than Monday or Tuesday.

I think the person claiming to be a Speed Factory staff member is an imposter:
1.) Speed Factory is 2 words (not one)
2.) He hasn't given any specific information
3.) Speed Factory is small, but they weren't all "at the data center" "working like crazy" because it's not a technical problem.

I'm gone, so if someone is buying their customer base it won't include me.

ahhhh the joys of Charter.....

The tech was early! Amazing, but like all things Charter, it did not take long for it to go south....

First thing his paper work is All WRONG.

Then he wisely looks at the situation.

The old cable that is still in place, but unused, was not grounded. So he looks around, the only ground is on the other side of the house, so he needs to run the cable over there...

Ok, that is the same side of the house the cable modem needs to go to... But he needs RJ11 cable for that and guess what? He does not have any. He calls dispatch and none of the other charter techs working that day have the cable either...

Naturally, when my wife called in the order she was told, "The Technician would have all the tools & modems he needs..."

A call back to Charter and the supervisor looks in to it.

A miricle happens, the charter supervisor ACTUALLY calls me back n a timely manner!

The dispatcher told the supervisor I would need to provide a ground. WTF? I mean, I can run up to HD and get a ground pole, but Isn't that part of the install? Even If I provide a ground, we are gonna run sub standard cable?

The supervisor is going to look into it and call me back in 30 min. I told her if she did, it would be a first for charter. But to be fair, she actually does seem to be trying...

And I trust the 1st tech. He seemed to not want to do something to get himself in hot water... And to actually provide the service correctly...

Told them if it does not happen today, it ain't happening...

Don't bother with comcast, just go to Atnex (no I don't work for them, but they have been great).

It's a straight switchover, don't even need no new equipment and they know what they are doing.

Chalk up another one for AtNex - I just got off the phone with them. Hopefully all will go smooth & we'll be back up on Monday. I hope they email me the new confing info & my IP's by tomorrow so I can have everythig ready to go when it lights-up!

SpeedFactory (and crew) were great before the buy out but the last year or so the connection seemed a little flaky at times.

FYI,
If you all are looking for options and choices, there are two additional DSL providers also serving the Atlanta Area.

www.negia.net (Northeast Georgia Internet out of Athens)

and

www.snappydsl.net (SnappyDSL.net out of Miami)
Snappy is one of the very few who also work with the IFTL/PC Data system.

Been with SF for 6 years. Just jumped to AtNex. Saved $10/mo too. Should be up Monday.
If SF is not out of business now, they will be soon when they feel the effect of everyone leaving.

The accompanying financial statements have been prepared in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America, which contemplate continuation of the Company as a going concern. While the Company now has an established source of revenue, it has experienced net losses of $9,843,541 since inception. The Company has a working capital deficit of $4,695,147 at September 30, 2007. These factors raise substantial doubt about the Company's ability to continue as a going concern. Without realization of additional capital, it would be unlikely for the Company to continue as a going concern. These unaudited condensed consolidated financial statements do not include any adjustments relating to the recoverability and classification of recorded asset amounts, or amounts and classification of liabilities that might result from this uncertainty.

I'm a ex employee also. And I can say that its all about money, and the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

As ciscokidccna stated. The merger changed everything and the local atl techs tried to maintain but its hard with no resources from the powers that be. At this point the people who kept everything together are all GONE. That's right, all the major techs are gone. So B____ no need to call anybody out, no one will be contacting you for assistance. Hopefully, everyone is in a better position and good luck on all future endeavors.

I also want to say that I really believed in SF and loved what we stood for when I first joined a long time ago and we were still a small company. I'm sorry that service declined and so many problems arose. Good luck to all the (ex)customers that believed in us to begin with. All good things must end. So good luck with your new internet choices.

"Offiicial" cached Google notification of Speedfactory Closing

It looks like the "parent company" website www.npwireless.com is also down as well.....

When I did a lookup on Google for "speedfactory closed" it pulled up a cached version of the official closing report for SpeedFactory. Since the npwireless page was down I had to pull up the text only cached version....

See you later SpeedFactory compadres...

Here it is - Google it yourself if you don't believe me:

"NextPhase Closes SpeedFactory Acquisition"

Company Expects $2 Million Increase in Annual Revenues as It Further Expands Portfolio and Reach With Acquisition of Leading Regional Business-Class ISP

ANAHEIM, CA -- April 12, 2006 -- NextPhase Wireless (OTCBB: NXPW - News), a next-generation connectivity company that specializes in integrated Internet, voice and data communication solutions, today announced that it has closed the acquisition of Atlanta-based SpeedFactory announced in a release dated March 29th, 2006.

As stated in an 8-K filing on April 11, 2006, SpeedFactory, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of NextPhase Wireless, Inc., acquired all of Synkronus, Inc.'s assets, excluding cash, pursuant to an Asset Purchase Agreement dated March 29, 2006 between SpeedFactory and Synkronus. The assets acquired by SpeedFactory comprise Synkronus' Internet service and connectivity business operated by Synkronus under the name "SpeedFactory." SpeedFactory paid $1,500,000 in cash for the assets at closing and did not assume any pre-closing liabilities from Synkronus.
CUSTOMER BASE GROWS BY 1100%

"SpeedFactory is a highly respected ISP, providing business-class DSL services to customers in Atlanta and the fast growing South-East region since 1998," said Robert Ford, NextPhase's President and CEO. "Together, we now provide a broad range of connectivity services to over 2500 customers in two of the fastest-growing regions of the country; Southern California and the South-East," added Ford.
REVENUE RUN RATE INCREASES TO $3.5M

Not only will the acquisition immediately add to our revenue and cash flow per share, it further strengthens our market-leading portfolio of connectivity products and services, and extends our geographic reach," said Ford. "With the contribution of the SpeedFactory acquisition starting in the first quarter of fiscal year 2007, we're now profitable and expect to see positive operating cash flow and much improved margins once the full integration is completed," added Ford.
COMPREHENSIVE PORTFOLIO OF CONNECTIVITY SOLUTIONS

In recent weeks, NextPhase has added Business-Class Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services to its broad portfolio of connectivity solutions; announced the nationwide wireless 'last mile' capabilities of NextNode Virtual Networks™; signed a Letter of Intent with Onasi, Inc. (OnSat) to form a joint venture to provide integrated connectivity solutions, using satellite backhaul and wireless 'last mile' technologies, to rural US markets and developing markets internationally; signed an agreement with Communication Technology Services (CTS) for the nationwide provision of broadband connectivity installation and technical support services.

"This acquisition, together with our other recent announcements shows that we're committed to building a world-class, full-service connectivity company. Through our broad range of products and services, we now have the ability to deliver flexible, scalable, reliable and cost-effective connectivity solutions to business customers anywhere in North America, and to developing markets outside the US. Whether customers are located in established metropolitan areas, developing regions where growth is outpacing the infrastructure build-out or in rural communities, we're now able to deliver solutions that can adapt and evolve to their changing customer needs," added Ford.

Re: "Offiicial" cached Google notification of Speedfactory Closi

Only because I am sitting in the office rather than at home while waiting on data loading to production...

Normally would not do this ..

The use of the word closed taken in context below indicates completion of a purchase in 2006
I would have used "Acquisition" rather then purchase but did not want to confuse…

Re: speed factory seems to be no more....

Just jumped to ATNEX. I went a visited the office as well and saw the signs. I've been an SF customer for a long time and I hate to see what happened. NP ran it into the ground. I certainly wish I had seen this coming, but it's not something you think about.

I just switched to Atnex as well. I'm just glad that I can still stick with a local ISP for a reasonable price. SF was good while they lasted. Unlike a lot of folks, in the years that I've used them, I could probably count the outages that had any real impact on me on one hand. Shame about the presumed poor financial situation...

The problem for me is I am under contract and if they aren't closed and will be back up and I go with someone else I am out a ton of cash...guess I have to wait. The real bummer is I am reading this while on vacation. The last vacation I took, my bank Netbank went under. Guess I should never go on vacation.

Ha ha ha... you are kidding? I was a netbank guy also.

This is a double whammy for me also, LOL.

With respect to the contract, how are you out of money? Did you pay a bunch of money upfront or buy some hardware or something? If you bought hardware and it was Cisco, just e-Bay it, you'll get a decent price.

I would suspect by now that SF would be in default on any contract that they have made with their customers. With an outage this long and no communications from them other than what we've heard in the group I suspect your contract is worthless and can not be upheld.

I just switch to AtNext(sp?) and I talked to the rep about the situation. He said they have been very busy switching customers over. The minute he hangs up the phone he gets another. It took 5 minutes to do the transaction. Hopefully it will take 5 minutes to do the switch over. I confirmed with him that all I need to do is change login info in my Linux router and reboot. Hopefully I'll be in great shape.

Our office also has SF. Luckily I moved all critical servers to edeltacom two years ago. We've decided to take the office to AT&T. We've learned about us keeping the same provider...

Would someone please post the mailing address of Speed Factory. I need to send them a letter canceling my internet....signed up with Atnex today. Since their site is down, I google'd for an address and got the Shallowford Road address, but with no suite number....I thought there was a suite number.

It's pretty damn ridiculous that I (along with others) had to go to Broadband Reports to find out what the hell is going on over at Speed Factory -- so rude and unprofessional. I've been with them since 2003.

I signed a one year contract that has like $175 early disconnect fee plus all the monthly fees up until the contract is out.
