I've had as fast as a 6Mb line and I'm now at 1Mb. I have no interest in paying 60 to $100 per month for internet so I don't look with envy at those with the latest and greatest. 1Mb works well now, but 5 years from now, who knows? Probably not. I run into a large number of webpages that are themselves well over 1MB. If rich content keeps growing in size and popularity it would seem even a 1Mb line is going to be brought to a crawl eventually.

I think, as has been pointed out, Time Warner and AT&T had better be careful though. Allowing competitors to gain advantages is a gamble. They don't want to end up like AOL, trapped in an inescapable reputation of junk.
