said by Karl Bode :Perhaps. Provided they're reasonable and regionally specific, I kind of think some irritation on my part is well worth catching a dirtbag before he kills a child. Anyone know how effective these actually are at catching the dirtbags? Or how many false positives they generate?
I'm all for helping rescue kids (and anyone else for that matter) who are in danger, but I've always had a sneaking suspicion that this is just one of those "feel-good" measures that allows politicians to look like they're doing something.
That being said, I wouldn't mind SMS Government Alerts on my cell phone provided I don't have to pay for it, if I could opt-out of receiving them (or a subset of them like Amber Alerts), and if they don't end up spamming my inbox. -- My opinions are my own. No-one else would want them! |

| LOL...this is what came up in my "Random Fortune":
This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. If this had been an actual emergency, do you really think we'd stick around to tell you? apropos, no? -- My opinions are my own. No-one else would want them! |

I have Cingular/AT&T and have not been charged for the amber alerts. |
