[Connectivity] DNS issues

Do any RCN employees read this board? I have a bunch of friends in Chicago that host websites on me at Steadfast.net in Chicago and most of the time they cannot get to their websites. The four RCN dns servers always seem to have issues resolving the domains. No one else seems to have this problem.

I have them all using Level3/GTE dns servers (4.2.2.1-6) and OpenDNS to get around the problem but they should not need to do this. I cannot find any other DNS servers (Comcast/AT&T/Time Warner/Verizon/Speakeasy/etc) that have issues seeing these domains. I have emailed all the normal RCN contacts but have not received a response after two weeks. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Scooby2

post the domain names and the specific records you're trying to resolve

I just started having the same problem getting one of my websites to resolve using RCN DNSs. They always worked before.

I tried nslookup to test the RCN DNS servers. The RCN DNS's time out when trying to resolve my website, but they succeed when trying to resolve google.com. When I switch which DNS server I was testing to openDNS everything resolves fine.

When I called RCN they seemed to not know what I was talking about. Is there any way to contact the people who run RCN's DNS servers to tell them about the problem?

Sorry I couldn't help the original poster but at least you know others have the same issue.

Re: [Connectivity] DNS issues

My website is "molecularware.com". RCN's DNS servers(207.172.3.8 / 207.172.3.9) seems to just timeout when I ask them to resolve in nslookup. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

There was an issue with one of the boston DNS servers, we addressed that issue thus you should not be seeing any more problems.

Just had 2 45 minute each calls with RCN tech support. Each time the line went dead perhaps the phone service, on my end that is RCN also, but no resolution.

Can reach all websites I tried today except citizensbank.com although it could be reached if I typed in the IP address or tried to reach it on my sprint treo phone. However if I navigated away from main page the site would not load.

Is this a RCN dns problem or a citizensbank problem?

Re: [Connectivity] DNS issues

Try clearing your browser cache, and rebooting would not hurt either to clear the DNS cache. citizensbank.com works for me, though that is no guarantee about your location.

Thanks for the reply. It is working today without problem and was working from my home computer last night.

Yesterday I tried both IE and Mozilla, cleared caches etc. and also 2 other computers in my office. I am convinced it was not my machines.
