rolande : It is possible that the config-register got changed on the switch which adjusted the console port speed settings. Typically you might see garbage on the terminal client if the console port is running at higher speed. Unfortunately, if that is the case, the only way to recover is to guess the line speed by manual testing.

Have you verified that the switch port lights are not lit amber and staying that way through the POST? You should see the lights flash as it is booting.
--
Ignorance is temporary...stupidity lasts forever!

»blog.thewaystation.com/

rolande : You're not reading my post. I am not talking about the switch configuration. I am talking about your terminal client on your PC. If you can see the text output on the terminal screen but when you type nothing shows up, then you either have an incorrect flow control setting in your terminal client, local echo is disabled, or there is a bad pinout on your terminal cable.

Also you can fix this issue of the switch booting to ROMMON by adjusting the config-register to 0x2102 and/or configuring 'boot system flash:imagename.bin'. Do a dir on your flash to see what IOS image is booting and you can configure that manually to boot at startup so you don't have to do it yourself each time.

rolande : Did you check to make sure you didn't disable local echo or change your flow control settings in the terminal client? Had this exact same issue with a Juniper/Netscreen firewall and it turned out to just be a flow control issue. I disabled all flow control and *bam* it worked. ;)
