Modern browser with system requiements below K-Meleon?

Mostly just curious. A friend said their internet was slow, and it turns out their XP computer only has 128mb, so that got me thinking about browsers with low system requirements.

Seriously, adding more RAM would do more good. Even thought MS says "At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)" for XP, 128MB is an incredibly low amount for running XP efficiently or doing anything on a PC today. I would imagine everything is slow on that box, not just the browser, and I doubt changing browsers will help all that much.

Just something to consider.

Re: Modern browser with system requiements below K-Meleon?

Sorry, I didn't realize I couldn't put an "" sign in my title.

edit: Sorry, didn't realize I couldn't put an "less than mathematical sign" anywhere in a BBR reports...

So that was unclear, what I meant was if there were any modern browsers that use even less system requirements than K-Meleon?

And I know 128mb is painfully low, she'll upgrade sometime here, I'm simply curious.

The problem the user has is that the system has limited memory, so looking only at the browser would be limiting the user's options to resolve resource limitations. K-Meleon is about as small as you can get. I recommend thinking outside the box and trying an alternate boot with DSL. The whole OS can run on a 486 DX with 16 MB of RAM, so the user's 128 MB suddenly becomes more than enough. Create a live CD and try it

Just downloaded, created a boot CD, booted up DSL and logged in on the Dillo browser. DOn't look for fancy graphics capability with Dillo. If that's an issue, DSL also has a Firefox build with it. However, along with the functional additions comes memory usage, so trade off as needed.

You can use the code and /code tags to enclose text that you don't want to be recognized as HTML tags. Just be sure to put each [code]
tag on its own line. Here's an example;

Personally, I believe that K-Meleon's usable minimum system requirements are much higher than 32MB. Anyway, MyIE2 0.9.27 lite was what I prevously used. That IE shell is now called Maxthon, but the new version probably is not be suitable for a 128MB system.

I'm a firefox user but Opera seems to work well in low RAM situations, I would give that a try.
