There is a known issue with the Motorola Surfboard series modem in how it handles the uncapped bandwidth on FilePlanet. Yes, you say to yourself "I get fast downloads at other sites". While this may be true, each site uses different data transfer methods and it is a known issue with this modem that speeds on FilePlanet drop to 200 kbs or less on this modem. Not in all cases, but some."

And Shaw only offers a limited selection of modems. Due to controlling their firmwares, Shaw won't support any other modems on the network.
