1 edit | Thanks sbrook and I apologise for unwittingly opening this can of worms.
For the record, though, I must state (in response to CanerisErik) that I vehemently DISAGREE with Bell's DPI and that it's not even remotely analogous to the officers checking that, indeed, I was who I said I was when I answered the door and wasn't unconscious or dead in another room. I've had nothing but good relations with the officers around here and have found them to be most professional in all regards (even when they had grounds to be real dicks). |

| reply to DKS Just to let folks know, it happened again. I have a direct number to the Test Center now and they are looking into the problem. The OSPS will also be filing a report with Bell Canada. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

| reply to DKS I'm not reading the whole thing to add my 2 cents so if it's been said before, sorry.. I'm aware of a security feature that if you pick up the receiver of a phone (older phone) and pres the little tab/whatever the headset pushes down to hang up after a call repeatedly that the phone system will automatically put you through to 911 as if you're in a struggle and can't dial the #'s. this HAS happened to me before just muckin around. So i would guess shitty wires that are shorting out on one another would cause the same type of thing to happen. |

Good to know. I never said it was analogous to anything. The "I have nothing to hide" attitude leads to believing you don't care about privacy.
One situation is the police coming into your home when they shouldn't, whereas another situation is Bell's DPI. They are different situations, but both have the privacy issue, hence my asking your opinion of the second situation.
But let's not hijack DKS's thread. Perhaps these posts can be moved elsewhere if the discussion is to be continued. |

| reply to DKS Here is something to consider, and I have alot of years at Bell so I am not coming in from left field. I don't see have a feature would cause this, its highly unlikely but if your at wits end, have it removed. I am thinking that perhaps you have a neighbour with a cordless phone that is semi compatible with yours and every once in awhile some digits "bleed" over to your line, maybe not the whole number but part of it. It happened when cordless first came out, people started connecting to other bases and LD calls would be charged to the other base.So either disconnect your cordless, and use a wired set, or canvas some neighbours. |

| Happened again yesterday. Fax machine was disconnected. 911 call was triggered when the call to the fax line (Ident-a-Call) was made. Called the test center again and they are opening a trouble ticket. OSPS attended again. Very pleasant. Note to self. Pick up coffee and donuts at Timmie's. -- Need-based health care not greed-based health care. |

My sister manages a few TimmyHo's and cops never pay, however they usually tip $1.00-$2.00 depending on size and complexity of the coffee. |
