HELP - Vonage Internet slowdown

I am a new vonage user and have had no problems with the phone service. However, the vonage router (Motorola VT2142RB) seems to be choking my internet speed to dial-up speeds. I am able to reset my ATT supplied motorola modem and get the speeds back up to normal for a few hours, but then it slows to a crawl again.

Vonage says there will be some slowdown with their router, but this is unbearably slow. Vonage had be change the QOS settings, but this morning I had the same problem again.

Anyone have a similar problem.

FYI, it is a brand new house with CAT 5.

I don't use my Vonage router as a router. My wireless router handles all of the net access, including for the Vonage device. Put it behind another router for Internet access and all should be right with the world for you.

As an AT&T DSL Customer, you qualify for AT&T's VoIP called CallVantage (CV) at a price of $19.99/month for unlimited local/long distance calling. Similar to Vonage, but $5 less for unlimited US & Canada calling.

866-596-8464 is CallVantage Customer Service.

To get the $20/month for AT&T DSL customers, you have to call customer service. But it is there. AT&T will supply their own Telephone Adapter for CV

I have never had good luck with Vonage router devices. On the other hand, it's no big deal to run the Vonage ATA through a "real" router, and these days they cost peanuts. You won't experience much in the way of problems if you do that (as others have already pointed out).

Pardon my ignorance, but why would putting another router before the Vonage router cause it not to affect the internet speeds? What settings are changed to make a difference? Isn't the Vonage router doing the same thing it was doing before?

My current set up is:
Broadband > Cable Modem > Vonage Adapter/Router > Computer

Where do you put the other router in that set-up?

AT&T CallVantage is cheaper IF and ONLY IF you are a current customer of AT&T ADSL, AT&T U-Verse, and/or AT&T Wireless. If you have any and/or all of those other AT&T Services, you qualify for the $5/month discount which makes the AT&T monthly cost $20/month for the unlimited plan.

If you do NOT have any of those services from/thru AT&T, then CallVantage and Vonage are the same price ($25/month for unlimited).

Of course, if you call Western Europe, Vonage is probably a better deal for you, as some European calls are included (I think?) in the Vonage deal. AT&T CallVantage is unlimited only to US & Canada (but I have a feeling that is plenty for many, if not most, US consumers).

Yes the Vonage router is doing the same thing it was doing before, the difference is the user would connect to the other router so their connection wouldn't be passed through the Vonage router causing slow speeds.

Broadband > Cable Modem > Router - Vonage
