| reply to Suave I'm reminded of the naive person who set out on a quest to find the one perfect food. Once he found it, he would thereafter eat nothing but that one perfect food.
I sure hope for the sake of his health and culinary delight that he's never found it !!
There IS NO ONE best anything, in anything in life! just as one size does not fit all.
One of the beauties of the digital age is that physical borders mean very little in "cyber realm". What that means is that in this query, an artificial physical border has little bearing upon one's choice of VoIP providers.
I would hope that the new shopper for VoIP providers would be looking for criteria like business longevity, technical and business expertise, price, availability, features, etc. These are the criteria which mattered to me when I set off looking for a provider. I wanted a provider who is/was busy providing world class service to his customers, NOT one who spends time lurking on internet forums trying desperately to drum up business.
I live in the southwestern US in a small, backwards state. After much intensive research, I decided on a Canadian provider based in Manitoba. This provider has been in business for well over ten years providing initially long distance service in the Canadian market. This provider has US points of presence as well. Excellent business and technical expertise, and Great VoIP Service. I'm extremely happy and satisfied with my service. This provider is »www.les.net
I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is the perfect provider, but then again, I know that such a beast is non-existent. This provider has some drawbacks. For me, the most serious drawback is the fact that he offers no DIDs in my area. I simply work around that limitation, because I'm not convinced that I would find their level of comprehensive service from any other provider, at such a competitive overall price and quality level. And I'm happy with their service.
I can wholeheartedly recommend that you investigate their service offerings, call and speak with them, and find out whether they offer what you're looking for. Don't rush into choosing a provider. Take your time and research the various companies you're considering, and look into more than what is purported on web pages. I believe that choosing a communications provider is a serious endeavor which merits thought and effort, and if done properly, can be a one-time, Long-Time proposition, because life is too short to be spent hopping around from providers to providers. Communications in our era should be stable, dependable, and simply "just work"; in other words they should be transparent in the same manner that you expect water out of the tap when you turn the faucet handle.
Good Luck, and happy dialing!

@bell.ca | reply to Suave You could take a look at www.atlasvoice.com. They are a provider that can actualy terminate Canadian 310 numbers. I don't know of that many Canadian providers that have that capability. |

| reply to Suave One of the best providers in Canada I've dealt with (and was recommended by many) is unlimitel.ca. They may seem a bit pricey compared to vbuzzer, acanac or others. However, like with many other things, you get what you pay for. |

| reply to gbh2o said by gbh2o :I'd second the Vbuzzer recommendation, depending on your needs. Vbuzzer is the WORST provider I have ever used. Their customer service is also useless! With vbuzzer you don't even get what you pay for. |

thewisperer Premium join:2008-01-16 | i have never needed the customer service but they have numbers all over the place for 2 bucks a month: that's hard to beat. And I put ten bucks in my account and its going a long way. Just a little cutting out sometimes. |

And I put ten bucks in my account and its going a long way. Just a little cutting out sometimes. When I've needed support [very rarely], they have responded in a timely fashion. However, I have to admit they usually fixed any problem first so all they could give me was good news. I wish they had a wider DID availability, but I understand their desire to keep a low price. I haven't noticed any cutting out of my audio, but in these days of cheaper providers, they are in reserve until I need a high quality international link or for an important North American call. |

| reply to Suave For those of you who say to stay away from AtlasVoice let me ask when you last used the service? It is true there were problems back in mid 2007 but as of 2008 the service is running flawlessly. I am currently using an AtlasVoice trunk on my asterisk box and couldn't be happier. The price is right, and the quality of Canadian and United States termination is excelent. I can not say how the quality of international termination is though. |

| reply to Suave If you don't need 911 service you should take a look at www.vbuzzer.com
I've been with them for over a year and overall I think their service is very good and their prices are competitive. |
