Usenet1 : I'm reminded of the naive person who set out on a quest to find the one perfect food. Once he found it, he would thereafter eat nothing but that one perfect food.

I sure hope for the sake of his health and culinary delight that he's never found it !!

There IS NO ONE best anything, in anything in life! just as one size does not fit all.

One of the beauties of the digital age is that physical borders mean very little in "cyber realm". What that means is that in this query, an artificial physical border has little bearing upon one's choice of VoIP providers.

I would hope that the new shopper for VoIP providers would be looking for criteria like business longevity, technical and business expertise, price, availability, features, etc.
These are the criteria which mattered to me when I set off looking for a provider. I wanted a provider who is/was busy providing world class service to his customers, NOT one who spends time lurking on internet forums trying desperately to drum up business.

I live in the southwestern US in a small, backwards state. After much intensive research, I decided on a Canadian provider based in Manitoba. This provider has been in business for well over ten years providing initially long distance service in the Canadian market. This provider has US points of presence as well. Excellent business and technical expertise, and Great VoIP Service. I'm extremely happy and satisfied with my service. This provider is »www.les.net

I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is the perfect provider, but then again, I know that such a beast is non-existent. This provider has some drawbacks. For me, the most serious drawback is the fact that he offers no DIDs in my area. I simply work around that limitation, because I'm not convinced that I would find their level of comprehensive service from any other provider, at such a competitive overall price and quality level. And I'm happy with their service.

I can wholeheartedly recommend that you investigate their service offerings, call and speak with them, and find out whether they offer what you're looking for. Don't rush into choosing a provider. Take your time and research the various companies you're considering, and look into more than what is purported on web pages. I believe that choosing a communications provider is a serious endeavor which merits thought and effort, and if done properly, can be a one-time, Long-Time proposition, because life is too short to be spent hopping around from providers to providers. Communications in our era should be stable, dependable, and simply "just work"; in other words they should be transparent in the same manner that you expect water out of the tap when you turn the faucet handle.

Good Luck, and happy dialing!

Valentin
