@verizon.net | [trouble] Connecting a router
I recently connected to Verizon DSL and have a Westell modem #327W. I also have a Netgear router. How do I connect to the router so that I can get online with my MacBook? thanks. |

| What is the model of the Netgear router?
By the sounds of what you are saying so far, it sounds like both devices are routers and you have an affect called Double NAT. That is because the Westell modem 327W is a modem combo (modem and router all-in-one), and the Netgear router are both routers. -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. @verizon.net | From what you are saying, it sounds like I can get by with just the Westall modem. However, when I connect to just the modem, I still cannot get connected to the internet on my Macbook? What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help. |

| reply to jbm Maybe you can and maybe you can't.
#1 While you are connected to the Internet with this modem, let's us make sure that you are or are not NATTED.
With most Windows systems: You do this by going to the start button -> run -> type in the command of cmd and press the enter key. If that command did not work, try command and then press the enter key.
After which ever of those commands works, in the window that appears. Type in ipconfig /all and press the enter key.
If cmd or command did not work, go to Start -> type in winipcfg and then press the enter key.
What is the first two octets of your IP? For example if your IP was 70.110.100.0, the answer would be 70.110.
Are you using PPPoE or DHCP to connect to the Internet? To determine this, where abouts are you (I am in Bethlehem, PA 18020) ? -- Please use the "yellow (IM) envelope" to contact me and please leave the URL intact. ISO 639-2 Code: ENG /ISO 639-1 Code: EN »tinyurl.com/ymoytj |

Not long ago, my brother-in-law was here for a visit. He is a "work-from-home" fellow, and had to initiate a VPN connection to his employer. After changing a single setting in my new D-Link DIR-655, he connected via VPN through a cascaded NAT (D-Link router and SpeedStream 4100 DSL modem, which is configured as a NAT connection). -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
