Re: The 'Amazon Tax' All Amazon has to do is bar people from NY state from becoming affiliates. So now you have several thousands perhaps NYers who make income by being affiliates with no or reduced income thus they would be paying less or no state taxes. REAL fricken smart NY.
I wouldn't doubt my state try this. In my state I already get charged 9.75% sales taxes. They also charge 8.25% on FOOD. And they wonder why those that live near a border shop in other states. Heck I can drive 45 miles to the wal-mart in KY and buy $250 worth of groceries and despite gas being $3.25 a gallon I come out ahead because I pay no sales tax in KY on food.
If states would cuts the pork out of their budgets they wouldn't need more tax $$$ |

They have no PHYSICAL presence in NYS which is why they do not need to collect taxes on items shipped to NY addresses. It is the responsibility of the customer to pay "use taxes" if applicable. All this law is about is trying to do an end run around the lack of physical presence. |
