Referral discounts?

Do these exist? I've brought a few people over to TSI already and one of my friends said they would be applying a referral discount to my account (which I haven't heard anything about.. that and I'm prepaid for a year).

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

$1 off per referral. They must mention you at the time of sign-up for the referral to go through properly. I'm not sure if the referrals work with the 1 year prepaid, but I don't see why it wouldn't. You should post in the direct forum and ask them to check your account for any referrals. It's possible the friend didn't mention it when he signed up.

They should. I'm in a group (same discount as 1 year prepaid), and on top of that I have a $1/mth discount for a referral (a friend who is on Unlimited and so can't join the group).

Rocky said a while back that they'd look into how they handle unlimited users in relation to groups, but with all the stuff going on these days with Bell, I'm sure that's on the back burner.

Not to worry. My first reaction was that if I prepay and have, say, five referrals, TSI gets only $22/month from me. After paying Bell $20.50/month on my behalf there's not much left to pay for Rick's bananas, even if Rocky buys them on sale. But then it occurred to me that TSI would now also get $30 (or maybe even more on Unlimited) from each of my referrals. So Rick would not have to go on a diet after all and Rocky could still afford a sports car even if it was not a Ferrari

so referrals are stackable with group discounts? theoretically if i refer 26 people i could pay nothing for my internet?

That's the answer I got when I posted in the direct forum. There's no limit on the referral discount.

If you referred 26 people, that's really only the equivalent of giving an additional $1 discount per customer. So it might be free to you, but they're still gaining by the fact that they now have 26 additional customers.

I was told they are not stackable. Both premium and unlimited qualify for the $3/month discount, but there is no additional $1 referral discount. Correct me if I am wrong.

If you have x people (where x is 4 or more), the total paid is less with the $3 off per person, as opposed to $1x for you.

As I understand it they're not stackable from the same referral. You can't have someone join your group and get $1/month off from them. But if you refer someone who doesn't join a group, you can get the $1/month from that referral even if you're in a group.

i called in before about this.

no they arent stackable.

it's 5 ppl including yourself to form a group and take advantage of the group pricing.

yes it's $1 per person you refer. and yes it's as many as you want.

that's sort of what i meant. stackable on a personal basis. as in tsi could be paying me if i refer enough people. maybe get enough referrals to get a second connection here for some mlppp action.

The lowest you can go is $0. TSI won't pay you if you get say 35 users.

Well, if you mean multiple logins on one TSI account, sure...

I'd argue that having 35 referrals would be greedy. If you have 35 referrals, you save up to $35 per month. If you have 35 people in a group, the group saves $105-140 (depending on static IPs) per month.

So, in this case, you're costing your group up to $140 to save yourself $35.
