| aldor or scryer for a priest
I'm currently leveling a priest (level 62 maybe 63 tonight) and I was wondering which way to go since I will need to make the choice soon. I went aldor with my rogue and druid and find myself looking at the rewards from the other side and wondering if I made the right choice. The rewards seem to be 6 of one half a dozen of the other to me but the whole priest thing is new to me. |

| reply to leveler It used to be a simple rule of heal/tank Aldor, Dps Scryer. But there are only a few things that really make the difference there. The shoulder enchants are slightly better for aldor for healers, scyer is better for dps. The tailoring threads are a push because now the primal nethers are tradeable so someone else can make the thread for you for your pants. Aldor has healing thread, scryer is dps thread. Take a peek at the exaulted rep rewards to see if there is anything there that you would want. If I remember there is a nice spell hit trinket for scyer rep that is nice for dps, and there is a healing mace that is so/so on aldor side. |

| reply to leveler Just look at the last shoulder inscription buffs the quartermaster sells in each faction, and then make your decision based on that. You might want to take a look at the patterns they sell for crafting/enchanting too.
The mistake people make is thinking one faction is that much better than another. Physical DPS think Aldor is their best choice (personally I think scryer is, because the inscription gives more critical hit), but neither faction is that much better than the other.
The rest of the gear they sell is largely useless once you start Heroics or Kara. Badge rewards, BG gear, even quest rewards are so much better than either have to offer.
So it comes down to what patterns they sell and what you judge to be the better shoulder inscription.
All the quest lines are identical for rep and end game, so that doesn't matter either. |

| reply to leveler Aldor has the better heal items and the suicide elevator.
The best thing about Aldor is Fel Armaments and Marks drop like candy in Outland. On our server this results in Aldor items being hard to give away, let alone sell, and Scryer items demanding a premium. The new island though is Scryer rep heaven so that long standing advantage for Aldor is slowly going away, they still have the advantage that it is easier to get the rep at a lower level as the new island pretty much demands level 70. -- At the end of this day, one shall stand, one shall ROFL! |

If one of their epic items really "grabs" you, then go for it, otherwise, they're the same.
Keep in mind though, scryer has a better elevator. Seeing as you're a priest, I guess the suicide elevator of Aldoor doesn't really matter - so long as you have light feathers. |

4 edits | reply to leveler As scryer you do have the option of committing suicide by attacking the dudes in that thrown room. Used to be easy kills for an averagely geared toon, but I guess they got sick of me killing their queen (or whatever that was in there).
So fly up to the top, straight into the room with all the people, then start taking them out. The guards won't come in, so you should be safe. Like I said I think the queen lady thing has been buffed a bit, so that might be a challenge.
It used to be one of my dailies, but I haven't tried in a while.. I'll take another look tonight.

| reply to leveler I'll add one thing that I don't see anyone else mentioning:
The Shattered Sun Offensive pendants have effects that are based on being exalted with Aldor or Scryer, and the effects are based on the faction.
For example with the Shattered Sun Pendant of Acumen the Aldor proc is Light's Wrath, +120 Spell damage and healing. The Scryers proc is Arcane Bolt, 333-367 arcane damage with an infinite range and a chance to crit.
So you may want to look at the SSO rewards (which are better than the original TBC faction rewards) for making your choice. »www.wowwiki.com/Shattered_Sun_Offensive -- "You are technically correct. The best kind of correct." -Bureaucrat 1.0 |

How could Blizzard make Scyer specifically for Mage comparing Aldor that apply to all magic caster? |

| reply to leveler From a Shadow Priests perspective, Aldor because the inscription adds 6 more damage.
From a Holy Priests perspective, Scryer because the inscription has 2 additional mana per 5.
The difference is bigger for Shadow Priests, so if you want to play both aspects of the Priest class, Aldor. Just my opinion. -- Faerie Blessings, Stephanie - www.GlitterFaerie.com |
