Shredding Service?

Hey guys long time no post. I've been busy finishing up school but I do miss you all.

I am looking for a place that I can drop off years of sensitive documents, pay a fee, and have it shredded for me. I have my own shredder but I don't have the time to catch up with the amount of papers I have.

Does anyone know somewhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan where I can get this done?

Thanks

Don't you think this kind of defeats the purpose of shredding important documents? If there is such a service, don't you think the people working there probably make around minimum wage, and probably aren't trustworthy enough to be in possession of such important documents? Your best bet is to just start shredding them yourself, otherwise, you're risk having people's identities stolen.

Anyways, here is one that operates in NY:

Some of them pickup, a lot of them have you ship it to them using prepaid boxes. I just think the chances of someone coming across those documents is greater with these approaches than even just putting them out with the trash! Which isn't that safe!

We have things up here called "burn barrels". Throw the crap in there and burn them into ashes. Problem solved.

Might not work with the strict environmental / fire regulations in NYC. Still the coolest way..

Many shredding services are bonded, and are liable for hefty penalties if found guilty of going through your shit.

Yeah, but I still think it is taking a big risk.. I bet it is safer to just take your chances by throwing it into a landfill somewhere than by sending it via the mail to one of these shredding locations.

Unless you really have mountains of paper, it seems like calling the shredding service, negotiating a price, waiting for them to arrive, and packing it up, would be far more time consuming than doing it yourself. I'm sure the secure or bonded services aren't cheap and the cheap ones probably aren't safe.

I'm surpirsed that you live in NYC and haven't seen those trucks around. They come right yo your office and shred it in the truck.

You're half right---they do both.

I work for a healthcare company where medical records have to be retained for at least 7 years, and where other documents need to be shredded daily. Iron Mountain handles both for us.

Use electronic documents with encryption. No shredding and no security issues to boot in the future.

As for now, just get a high end shredder or use the shredding services which have the employees background screened and the like. I would assume these are probably the firms that the Fortune 500 companies use.
