| Do ppl still play BF 2142? If not, what FPS are ppl playing
I've played every BF game up until this one. I have quit gaming for a few years. Is it too late to join in? I'm thinking about buying an 8800 GT card to play this or jump on a similar FPS game.
What other FPS games are out now that people are playing? |

| Im not playen any. They all suck IMO. They hype up the game to the point where when you play it, its nothing like you expected and you are disappointed.
I had never played FarCry until 2 days ago, and I swear people talked about how pretty and good the game was. I stopped playen after 1 hr and uninstalled it. Just another boring run around and shoot people. I think pc gaming is dieing. |

| reply to ninjatutle FPS games are made for the PC IMO. I love games like Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, and so on. As for what is good out there, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, and Battlefield 2 are my favorites right now and you don't need a smoking new system to play them either. F.E.A.R. was a awesome game as well for single player.
For newer games that are steep in the hardware requirements, I recommend Bioshock and Crysis.
As for PC gaming dying, I don't think so. Its still a 2 billion dollar a year industry so it isn't going anywhere yet. |

Gamers started around the 70's and are still going strong today as 30+ year old gamers as the main audience. I myself am 29 and started on a C64 and then through every damn console just about, then finally into PC gaming in 1998. While I was PC gaming I did purchase a PS2 and Xbox, both which collected dust and I eventually sold.
PC gaming is where it is at and is where it is going to stay for me. RTS, FPS, MMO, games are BEST on a PC. I have owned over 50+ PC titles and spent roughly $2500 in PC games in over 10 years. As far as hardware requirements going up and up, sorry... if you can't keep up you simply save for the future.
The day I move to a console is the day a console turns into a PC practically, and by that I mean EVERYTHING a PC can do. I don't see that happening for another 5+ years or so... if that. And besides all that consoles go up in price every 3-4 years anyways, so both markets are steadily increasing.
PC gaming is the only way for me, if we didn't have PC gaming I wouldn't be playing at all. |

And just so no one is confused. When I say pc games, I mean REAL pc games(fps's), not the command line based games. Which I also played. |

| Red Faction was soo cool when it was released. Ya know. This thread has got me thinking as to what killed it for me.
Back in 1998-2003 They released more popular titles than in the past 5 years. I mean, for each new titles they release now, you HAVE to go and build a new pc just to play it. Back in the day, you could build a pc and play games on it for the next 3 years without problems. Now, you build a pc for all this money, and in 1 year or so, its obsolete. All the new games that come out are even more demanding. It was not like that before. The industry used the existing technology and really got as much out of it as they could, now they just seem to be rushing to get the latest and greatest without really spending time where they are. |

Obviously you missed 2007, probably one of the best years for gaming. This year, Starcraft 2 might be coming out.
The power requirements are not that bad, about 200-300W peak depending on your config. The Xbox360 and PS3 use about 200W peak as well.
You can still buy a PC today and use it for the next three years, it depends how high you want the settings to be. PC gaming is not dying, it might be expensive but there are a lot of games that cannot be played on a console.
@OP Team Fortress 2 and COD4 are two games worth checking out. |

So, you started PC gaming when it was unheard of (which was around late 70's and early 80's) at the age of below 10?. Late 80's and early 90's is when PC gaming really took off.
So, you jumped in a time machine or you haven't updated your age in over 6 years when you joined in 2002 at this site which still wouldn't put you in the correct time era for early adaptation of PC Gaming.
Which is it? |

I hope he keeps replying so Jiga can keep burning him.
I mean why would you even post that in a "PC GAMING" forum? If you hate PC so much why are you even here?
Half-life2 was awesome, Portal was awesome. TF2 alot of people like, I played TFC for a long time and I'm personally not a huge fan of the new one. Doom3 was pretty decent. And I also hear alot of good things about COD4. Should be plenty to keep you busy. |
