Re: Do ppl still play BF 2142? If not, what FPS are ppl playing

FPS games are made for the PC IMO. I love games like Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, and so on. As for what is good out there, Team Fortress 2, Half Life 2, and Battlefield 2 are my favorites right now and you don't need a smoking new system to play them either. F.E.A.R. was a awesome game as well for single player.

For newer games that are steep in the hardware requirements, I recommend Bioshock and Crysis.

As for PC gaming dying, I don't think so. Its still a 2 billion dollar a year industry so it isn't going anywhere yet.

What is people like you?

Gamers started around the 70's and are still going strong today as 30+ year old gamers as the main audience. I myself am 29 and started on a C64 and then through every damn console just about, then finally into PC gaming in 1998.
While I was PC gaming I did purchase a PS2 and Xbox, both which collected dust and I eventually sold.

PC gaming is where it is at and is where it is going to stay for me. RTS, FPS, MMO, games are BEST on a PC. I have owned over 50+ PC titles and spent roughly $2500 in PC games in over 10 years. As far as hardware requirements going up and up, sorry... if you can't keep up you simply save for the future.

The day I move to a console is the day a console turns into a PC practically, and by that I mean EVERYTHING a PC can do. I don't see that happening for another 5+ years or so... if that. And besides all that consoles go up in price every 3-4 years anyways, so both markets are steadily increasing.

PC gaming is the only way for me, if we didn't have PC gaming I wouldn't be playing at all.

People like me = the ones who started PC gaming when pc gaming was unheard of. The original adopters.

And just so no one is confused. When I say pc games, I mean REAL pc games(fps's), not the command line based games. Which I also played.

Well, you either haven't updated your age or you were 7 years old in 1993 and playing Doom?

So, you started PC gaming when it was unheard of (which was around late 70's and early 80's) at the age of below 10?. Late 80's and early 90's is when PC gaming really took off.

So, you jumped in a time machine or you haven't updated your age in over 6 years when you joined in 2002 at this site which still wouldn't put you in the correct time era for early adaptation of PC Gaming.

Which is it?

LOL

I hope he keeps replying so Jiga can keep burning him.

I mean why would you even post that in a "PC GAMING" forum? If you hate PC so much why are you even here?

Half-life2 was awesome, Portal was awesome. TF2 alot of people like, I played TFC for a long time and I'm personally not a huge fan of the new one. Doom3 was pretty decent. And I also hear alot of good things about COD4. Should be plenty to keep you busy.

You sir...Fail. You didn't even like Farcry...Hmmm great environment, great AI. Overall great game. And groundbreaking with some of the graphics.

You obviously have no taste as far as games go. Wait...is your favorite game bejewled? I must be wrong though, all the awards farcry won must not mean anything or all the 9/10 or 10/10 reviews it got.

Edit: You're calling us haters? What the hell have all of your posts been about? Hatin on PC games. You're wrong, and not only that you're trying to prove your point in the worst possible place, PC GAMING forums. Go back to the console boards.

Thats fine have your opinion. But don't say "All the people like me" cause you're in the minority of people that didn't like it. Your generalizing big time because of your PERSONAL feelings.

Go back to your console FPS that targets for you. If you can't afford to PC game, then fine, but don't lay this whole negative BS out there that its dying just because you don't want to spend the money.

The line between PC's and Consoles is just going to get more and more gray till there is no line. One box that does it all, does that mean PC gaming is dead? No it means you got an xbox with a keyboard and a pc with a gamepad.

Edit: Coffee maker optional.

Er...sorry that not everyone gets off on the same games. I'd have to agree with him in that FarCry really didn't get my rocks off. Maybe its our "bad taste", or whatever, but it still is our $$$, and folks can spend it how they please.

Personally, in terms of FPSes, I haven't seen anything revolutionary. Portal added something, and my re-discovery of Postal 2 was pretty humor-riffic...however, aside from an increase in graphics, the "got-to-have" FPSes just haven't hit home for me.

On a sadder note, its actually been a better time on the console. Assassin's Creed was enthralling and playing Army of Two was amazing. I personally didn't like Gears of War much (the game its based on), as Army broke up the monotony of duck-duck-duck in Advanced mode.

I'm still on World of WoWcrack, but besides that, I really don't see much of interest in PC gaming coming up. I can't wait to get a hold of StarCraft 2, but as for the other "must play games", eh...kinda snoozers IMHO. Just my opinion.

(edit) Personally, I'll be wrapped up on the console playing Smash when not on WoW. Having folks to play with in-house beats an online experience hand-down for me.

More so the ease of use for me. I buy a disc, throw it in, no worries. I don't have to worry about patches, hardware bugs, occasional malware installs from EA, etc. Is it that bad to just enjoy some simplicity when you just want to sit back and play a game?

There's more than one way to take what you said? Please explain then, because you pretty much put it plain and simple that;

You're 22 man, you were not anywhere near the "original adopters", hell even I wasn't. The ones that are 40+ years of age and still gaming to this day are the "original adopters".. FFS son, get it right.

I understand how you feel, I felt that way around 2004/2005 when gaming was semi-stale. With the advance of new technologies we are seeing new heights in gaming. DX10, new and more powerful GPU's, CPU's, etc. Gaming is really taking off these days. Sure... the titles may be the same rehash over and over but we are seeing some new and interesting titles coming our way. Be it RTS, FPS, Adventure, MMORPG, MMOFPS, MMOSimulation, new games are always coming out and new developers are always coming into the market with fresh ideas.

Maybe if you had tasted FarCry back in 2004 when it was originally released you would have seen and felt how GREAT of a game it was. It was ground breaking back then, but as you said you just recently played it... it is now 2008, of course it is old tech. I guess the game selling over "730,000 units within four months of release and has currently sold over 1 million copies worldwide" is a failure

Ok, Im done with this thread. Cant have a simple discussion on here without all you people getting your panties in a knot over someone's opinion.

Im not going to argue with you kids. Goodnight.
You just failed... With a generalization like that... everyone here is a kid but you

As for the OP. I haven't played BG2142 in a long while. I think most have either went back to BF2 or jumped to COD4. I myself prefer BF2 over BF2142. BF2142 didn't really do it for me, while it was a great game the sci-fi of it wasn't enough... I needed more

I prefer mods to BF2 right now, like Project Reality »www.realitymod.com/ or Point of Existance »www.pointofexistence.com/ or Desert Conflict which is the excellent Desert Combat mod from BF1942 »www.desert-conflict.org/

That's a concern for some I guess, but not a big deal for me. That's how PC gaming goes and that is why I strive to learn more about PC hardware/software to this day. Once you learn the In's and Out's of hardware/software the issues seem little.

Actually consoles do have their share of bugs and patches, what's worse is that a lot of griefing happens on TF2 on consoles because of the lack of patching.

Not to mention paying for some additional content.
Here's what I mean.

Haven't bumped into it yet in my console career. Well, I take it back, I ran into some in Assassin's Creed...however, that was because I chose to opt out of the auto-update that popped up when I stuck the disc in.

Needless to say, if I had to compare the amount of console bugs to PC gaming bugs, the ratio between the two would be huge.
