ctceo : A terrorist is just that. S/He doesn't need cellphones or a lack thereof to hijack a flight.

As for the concerns of interference with nav and/or comms equipment that staff uses to ensure the safety and pilot the plane. I'm still skeptical on that one.

I saw the episode of MythBusters where they concluded that it was just another way for the airlines to get into your pocket while up in the air and cornered. But there was realtime interference caused directly to the (OLDER) nav equipment by a pre-pay cellphone that was used during the mock cockpit test. If that result is any indication of what would happen when a majority of jumbo jet users have their cell phones on and using most of them at the same time, well that wasn't tested (at least not publicly). Kinda started a Sub-Thread here for speculative purposes, lol.

anon : you hate cell phones... do we really need laws to enforce manners? it's like turn signals there are laws that say we have to use them and inconsiderate people still don't use them... so I flip them off... so if someone is talking too loud next to you either on the phone or to the person next to them... tell them to shut the hell up Please! besides why do we see cell phone use as any different than two people talking next to us, is it some how different cause you can't hear the other side of the conversation? if every would just show a little consideration we would not have these problems.

!!I hate stupid people!!

axus : What can? If there is a law against using a cell phone on a plane, and a cell phone would help them, a terrorist is going to use it anyways. Or if you're on a plane getting hijacked, you're going to use your cell-phone to tell someone anyways, who cares about the law in that situation.

When cell phones are outlawed, only outlaws will have cell phones.

I think phone conversations banned/not banned would be better for the airlines to decide. Depending on how people feel, it could be a competitive advantage. Airline A could lift all restrictions, they'd probably get more business passengers and first time flyers. Airline B could ban the talking and they'd get the people who like to sleep or not be bothered.
