2 edits | *Master Topic* FiosTV Going 100% Digital/All Markets Looking to consolidate all of the Verizon FiOS TV Going To 100% Digital Threads into a Single Sticky Thread.
The issue is the removal of the Analog channels 2-49 that could be watched with only a Cable Ready TV, that they will be turned off completely, and you will need a Digital Adapter, Box, DVR, or CableCard Ready device such as a TiVO.

| Cool.
Might be worth noting which markets were all-digital to begin with (Portland, OR. and Philadelphia?) and comb through the existing two or three threads to see who has already been converted. This would give the stickiness some oomph from the start |

1 edit | reply to KA3SGM If you want to start a sticky thread, you should start it with basic information in the first post. You may want to restart this thread, but with info such as the reported start of analog shutdown schedule (which has been accurate so far). Maybe a paragraph explaining that the analog shutdown ONLY affects people with analog TVs or VCRs hooked directly up to the Fios cable using a analog NTSC tuner to get channels 2 to 49. The shutdown has no impact on the SD or HD STBs or DVRs provided by Verizon.
Reported Verizon analog shutdown schedule as of mid-February, 2008 IN(VHO10) 4/1 VA(VHO9) 4/7 (central VA / Richmond) VA(VHO9a) 4/14 (Hampton Roads) NY(VHO5) 4/21 MA(VHO6) 5/12 RI(VHO6a) 5/12 DE(VHO8) 6/2 PA(VHO8) 6/2 (Philadelphia area) NJ(VHO8) 6/2 (southern NJ) NJ(VHO7) 6/23 (northern NJ) MD(VHO4) 7/21 VA(VHO4) 7/21 (Northern VA) FL(VHO2) 8/18 CA(VHO3) 9/1 TX(VHO1) 9/22
Markets that started as digital only: OR Western PA which is Pittsburgh

? | OR | NO | N/A | 12/2007 | 12/31/99 |

 | According to a unnamed source, Pittsburgh is VHO 11, Oregon (Portland area only?) is VHO 12.
Wonder who will be VHO 13? I don't recall any rumors about new cities or markets opening up soon. |

I believe that FiOS TV is available west of Portland in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Cornelius, and Forest Grove. To the south slightly, it's also available in Newberg and McMinnville.
And yet, we're the "Portland, OR" market |

Which is generally going to be communities out to 40-50 miles outside of the city proper.
Nothing surprising about Fios being added to the suburbs first. That is the pattern in just about all the markets where Verizon is rolling out Fios. The first areas to get built out are mostly medium density suburbs of townhouses and single family homes. There are lot of issues that come into play when installing Fios into a apartment/condo complex or high-rise building. |

| reply to HaloBox said by HaloBox:What impact will this change have to TiVo and Vista Digital Cable tuner users (both via CableCard) ??? There would be no negative impact to Cable Card devices, the conversion to 100% Digital strictly affects anyone that had the Basic Tier on a cable ready TV, or any TV directly connected to Fios without a Box/DVR, Cable Card Device or Digital Adapter.

The Positive Impact will be that by removing Analog, it will make space to add many more HD/SD channels to the system at an undetermined future date. -- "Lithium is no longer available on credit" |

Fact most of the state's population is covered by Qwest (Portland, Salem, Eugene...) The burbs (outside of Portland boundaries) is Verizon territory. I don't think Verizon goes further south then McMinnville. |
