| [TWC] [Durham NC /RTP] Speed bump comming!
I was contacted by Time warner's support department today because i have road runner tubbo 8/512 and a docsis 1.1 cable modem. The phone rep said that to take advantage of their upgraded road runner tubo speeds i would have to have a docsis 2 compatible cable modem. The tech mis-spoke and almost called it "road runner 10 meg--, then called it tubo again. When i called to activate my new cable modem(i buy not rent) the tech on the phone was aware of the pending upgrade but did now have a time frame, but said that the first level tech support people don't hear about it until it's just about ready to go. YAY! Also on a personal note my new cable modem is already doing way better than my 6 year old model. |

| reply to sandmyth A speed bump is welcome here in RTP!... but I will believe it only when I see it. Hopefully it's at least 10/1... which may actually seem worth upgrading.
I am a bit curious though, as I got something in the mail about upgrades over the next two months they are doing to their set top boxes and DVR's (software upgrade) for a new user experience. Maybe they just didn't want to announce a speed upgrade until it officially comes to fruition. |

1 edit | reply to Matt Actually in my market they don't charge a rental fee, but if you own your own modem, you can ask for a "no docsis" line to be added to your account that will credit you three dollars a month. As i've moved several time i've had a hard time getting this discount, but it's there as i am currently getting the three dollar credit a month.
As to my house burning down, that's what i have insurance for, cause i don't want to know what they would want for three cable cards.... probably around $1000 |

While it would take several years to make up the cost of the modem, if you're going to have your modem for several years it might be worth it.
Thanks for the tip. |

(HD DVR) All I had to do was give them the police report number and they said I could come pick up new stuff. ::shrug::
I imagine it would be the same with a fire, but perhaps it's different from division to division. |

Now if they just make it happen. I would pay extra for the turbo to get 1Mb upload. |

| reply to sandmyth I have been downloading from GIGANEWS all day at 1265 KBps, which is 10Mbps. SO I guess my modem has been re-capped at 10 Mbps, cause I normally max out at 989 KBps on my download.
But my upload is still at the 58 KBps crap.

| reply to Anony123aa So it's 10/512.
Well at least I know it's *still* not worth $10 extra.
They should just cut the upstream down to 256k, and call it an upgrade. TWC's "advanced fiber network" sure brings us blazing fast upstream speeds we could never get anywhere else.
btw, can anyone access the Raleigh/Durham TWC page? I've been trying to access it to see if they have any info about this, but it appears to be down, and I have never seen it down in the nearly 10 years I had RR.

| Raleigh/Durham is up, just switched from the Fayetteville page...
I just had an AMBIT modem installed this week, and it seems more reliable than the old. The TWC guy was talking 15/1 soon...he didn't seem like he knew much though. I'm getting 7879/493 late at night, d/l's suck during the 4-10PM timeframe though. I think if I ever had to go back to "dial-up" I'd quit! |

1 edit | reply to sandmyth For those in the Triad market... still no love for us. As per usual, we're the tail end of the cow.
My [Residential] RR Turbo score for the night:
EDIT: Since I have a residential and a business class connection at home (1 for personal and 1 for telecommuting/WAN/video conferencing), I figured while I was here, we might as well compare my RR Biz Class 5x1.5. No upgrade love there either. Notice business connections are slightly overprovisioned so you can, in theory, get your full speed. Notice also that doesn't exactly work in real life.
(The residential connection costs me $58ish/mo. The business connection costs me $200ish/mo. You be the judge.)
