Klaus 11-15-2011 to 624-2012
I am sitting here now waiting for the vet to show up to put Klaus to sleep in my home. It is hard to think I shot this photo almost a month ago to the day and now I am at this point....he has had such a great life, at almost 13 years he has been through so much with me and was always there for me. I know I am doing the right thing as he is quite ill and has been since the middle of the week. Badly so.
I love you buddy! You will continue to be my best friend ever and run with me through the fields of gold!

I know how it feels and that it is a very hard thing to do even though it is for the best.

I am so sorry for you and your family just try to remember his love and yours will be in your hearts forever.

RIP Klaus:

God Saw You Getting Tired
God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"
With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best

I never added Gigi to my avatar because she was a foster and belonged to rescue. But she was our permanent foster for almost 3 years and was as much a part of our family as any of the other dogs. I will add her soon. She was a sweet girl who wasn't treated the way she deserved before coming into rescue. She suffered from a number of health issues but kept her sweet disposition. Over the weekend Gigi suffered a massive heart attack, the x-rays indicate it might have been caused by a possibly cancerous mass in her chest. Her suffering ended yesterday. She will be coming home tomorrow to be with us forever. She will be deeply missed, I look forward to seeing her when my time comes. I know she's in a better place free of pain and running free again. I'll be updating her page on dogster as time allows. »www.dogster.com/dogs/1080333

Re: [FYI] Our Pet Memorial Thread

My condolences to all the other members that have lost a dear pet/friend/family member, in my case they were all three (most likely for others too).

I had to put my buddy (previous owner named her Infinity, the wife called her Finny, I just called her cat, or kitty, it didn't seem to make any difference, we were HER pets anyways) down on tuesday (10/16/2012). It was one of the hardest things to do, but she went downhill SO fast, there was no chance and it had to be done.

Meteor on lawn
Lost Cat! Meteor is lost!
My friend went on holiday to the Czech Republic in late August. Her parents were taking care of Meteor at the dacha. The mother let the cat out at night...

The Father (Retired Colonel, Red Army Airborne Artillery, Land Navigation Instructor) set out with his friends (all retired Red Army Snake Eaters) to find the cat. Meteor is still missing though. City cat in the country.

If you are in the area northeast of Ryazan, Russia and find the cat, please send me a message.

Funny thing is imagining a half dozen older, graying, elite Soviet Officers walking around the woods saying "Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty.

My Dusky-Head Conure buddy of 20 years, Quito "Keet," passed away. When we first got him, we didn't know how old he was. A Conure can live from 20 - 30 years. Since I had him for 20 years, it was probably his time.

Last week, his usual work hard / play hard attitude changed to one of being quite and having no energy. After a few days, he was getting progressively worse. At the time, I thought he was eating OK.

Yesterday, I took him to the vet (avian certified). He had a massive respiratory infection and was in bad shape.

Birds are genetically imprinted to hide their true health in order to thwart predators. (I knew that.)

Not only do they fluff their feathers to make them look bigger, but they also trick you into thinking that they are eating - when they are in fact not. (I had no idea about this tactic.) It's another way to ward off predators. He had me fooled. Keet's weight was dangerously low, which I couldn't tell until the vet weighed him.

We had to try and save him, so the vet sent me home with antibiotics and instructions on what to do. That evening, he was far too weak to even stand. We made him comfortable, my husband stayed with him the whole night. He passed away in the early hours of the morning.

I don't have many photos of him, as he always attacked cameras. He ruffles his feathers and tries to aggressively bite the camera, as shown in the photo below.

I also have a Senegal parrot, who's been the subject of at least one Creative Expressions thread. He doesn't mind the camera.

I hate coming to this forum due to what it's for, but I am happy that I can. I know, having lost a number of family members, how it feels, and it's always good to have others to share your feeling of loss. In a sense, it's like having a memorial for ones pet/family member. To those who have lost loved ones since I last wrote, my condolences to you all. We are in the process of watching our own slowly going down hill with cancer, and we know how lonely it will be at the end.
