Re: [FYI] Our Pet Memorial Thread My condolences to all the other members that have lost a dear pet/friend/family member, in my case they were all three (most likely for others too).
I had to put my buddy (previous owner named her Infinity, the wife called her Finny, I just called her cat, or kitty, it didn't seem to make any difference, we were HER pets anyways) down on tuesday (10/16/2012). It was one of the hardest things to do, but she went downhill SO fast, there was no chance and it had to be done. |

 Meteor on lawn |
Lost Cat! Meteor is lost! My friend went on holiday to the Czech Republic in late August. Her parents were taking care of Meteor at the dacha. The mother let the cat out at night...
The Father (Retired Colonel, Red Army Airborne Artillery, Land Navigation Instructor) set out with his friends (all retired Red Army Snake Eaters) to find the cat. Meteor is still missing though. City cat in the country.
If you are in the area northeast of Ryazan, Russia and find the cat, please send me a message.
Funny thing is imagining a half dozen older, graying, elite Soviet Officers walking around the woods saying "Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty. |

GeekGirl1Premium join:2007-01-28 Morrisville, PA kudos:2 | reply to Pretorious My Dusky-Head Conure buddy of 20 years, Quito "Keet," passed away. When we first got him, we didn't know how old he was. A Conure can live from 20 - 30 years. Since I had him for 20 years, it was probably his time.
Last week, his usual work hard / play hard attitude changed to one of being quite and having no energy. After a few days, he was getting progressively worse. At the time, I thought he was eating OK.
Yesterday, I took him to the vet (avian certified). He had a massive respiratory infection and was in bad shape.
Birds are genetically imprinted to hide their true health in order to thwart predators. (I knew that.)
Not only do they fluff their feathers to make them look bigger, but they also trick you into thinking that they are eating - when they are in fact not. (I had no idea about this tactic.) It's another way to ward off predators. He had me fooled. Keet's weight was dangerously low, which I couldn't tell until the vet weighed him.
We had to try and save him, so the vet sent me home with antibiotics and instructions on what to do. That evening, he was far too weak to even stand. We made him comfortable, my husband stayed with him the whole night. He passed away in the early hours of the morning.
I don't have many photos of him, as he always attacked cameras. He ruffles his feathers and tries to aggressively bite the camera, as shown in the photo below.

I also have a Senegal parrot, who's been the subject of at least one Creative Expressions thread. He doesn't mind the camera. |

I know, having lost a number of family members, how it feels, and it's always good to have others to share your feeling of loss. In a sense, it's like having a memorial for ones pet/family member. To those who have lost loved ones since I last wrote, my condolences to you all. We are in the process of watching our own slowly going down hill with cancer, and we know how lonely it will be at the end. -- JKK

I want to add how much I hate it when I have to post something in here. I post about a pet is bad enough. Yet this is at least the third time I have had to post in here in the last couple of year.
My beautiful, loving and perfect baby boy, Quinsi, passed away today at a way to early age of 8 years 11 months. He had the most awesome personality. He loved everyone and everything and everyone loved him. It's killing me just to type this now.
Mommy and Daddy miss you more than you will ever know. You were our heart dog.

I had to say goodbye to my friend of 17 years 8 months last Saturday. He was healthy up until the day we got home from being displaced from Hurricane Sandy for a month. I think the stress magnified whatever small issues were happening that his easy life masked. He was fine the entire time until then...eating like the garbage gut he had always been. I kept hoping he would bounce back after a round of antibiotics but last Saturday when he was in obvious respiratory distress I made that heartbreaking decision everyone here knows we must make when our pets are suffering. Do we put them through prodding and poking, pills or worse shots or do we let them go with dignity. Here he is at Grandma's helping with the dishes at Thanksgiving and just another of his handsome self. RIP my buddy, Wolfgang. |
