| Re: component vs. dvi cable connections Try switching the cables between the two units, just to rule out a cable or splitter issue. Aside from that, it sounds like just a difference in the tuners.
Devices with digital tuners, should be able to update time via a digital signal. As you noted, it may require a firmware update from the vendor. The same would apply to older hardware without digital tuners, the new digital tuner would receive the time (over a digital channel) and forward it.
