You keep using 'FUD', but I'm not sure you understand the concept, and might be using it incorrectly.
If I understand you, you believe Cogeco is throttling torrents? If so, FUD is the opposite of what's being discussed.
If you don't believe that Cogeco is throttling torrents, and you're against the OP, then I can see how you'd consider this disinformation. |

Then the other two sides are left to battle it out. Each side nullifies the others.
If a third party just happened to start reading the thread they would come to the conclusion that throttling 'does not exist'.
The silence from one party and the nullification from the others create an atmosphere of disinformation. |

I do love the way the Cogeco spokeswoman put that. Very carefully 
It is worth mentioning that you don't have to fake RST flagged packets. If you just drop flows silently you will eventually get a genuine RST from the other side as it times out 
All that statement says is that they don't use the kit which generates the false RSTs, which as far as I know means Sandvine. |

I would imagine that given the sensitive nature of this topic and the publicity it has that cogeco employees would be well advised to not make public comments about the situation.
Long and short: I personally like the cogeco people that frequent this forum and help people out - including in their own time - I would not like to see them lose their jobs trying to answer your questions... you'll probably have to accept hearing it all from "spokespeople" for the time being.

I agree, donwloading from my 12 connections to my newsgroup provider (only after midnight to avoid node congestion issues) I get speeds that blow the BBR out of the water.
However the BT route, to get consistently good upload speeds requires me using a VPN. I've had no problems after signing up for VPN. I'm curious, because I remember your previous posts, that you now seem to have an issue with BT. Have you tried WireShark. Its results swung me over to VPN and I haven't regretted it since.

im getting cogeco 10mb/s on fri(may 23). should i cancel the appointment and get nexicom dsl 5mb/s? i heard dsl is better in terms of dl torrents..is that true? i got in touch with a nexicom rep thru a forum, he looked at my area and told me that their dsl line would be serviced through bell. so ... is that a bad thing altogether?
#1 so again i ask, cogeco OR nexicom?
#2 or should I keep cogeco and get giganews(its a newsgroup? w/ unltd dl for $30/mon .. so i can share with another friend)
im new to all this, i dont quite know/understand newsgroups.
any suggestion would be helpful. i'd just hate to get cogeco then find out they throttle..already being paid $35 admin fees and then switch to another isp. |

As for your choice... I suppose it depends on how much you're downloading. If you download a lot, keep in mind you're capped at 60GB on the standard account... so throttling might actually help keep your rates down. I say try it and see for yourself... if you don't like it, switch over to the other company. |

| Yes thumbs up for Cogeco, I will not be afraid to admit when I have a problem but a couple of things I do not download many torrents at all, however when I do download, I really don't have any issues with the speed. I have seen people with issues as well so my thought is try it out, go from there! |

If Nexicom DSL is going through Bell you're almost certainly gonna get your torrents throttled. It's at certain times of day, something from like 5pm-3am or so with both uploading and downloading throttled. So if you won't be torrenting then or are fine with getting your torrents the day after it won't make a big difference to you.
Cogeco only seems to throttle in certain areas as there are plenty of people who don't get throttled and plenty of people who do. So you may or may not be throttled. If you are throttled it'll be at all times but only on uploads. That means on public torrents it'll affect download speeds. On private site torrents you'll still get good download speeds but keeping up with ratios will be a problem.
Encrypting torrents does nothing against throttling.
Usenet is pretty easy to use, and if your downloading is mostly tv shows/movies/top 40 music/normal porn, you'll be able to find pretty much everything you can with torrents. If you like more obscure music or more fetishy type porn you can find that easier with torrents.

| Ok sounds good. I will go ahead with Cogeco. Ill think about newsgroup after I see how torrents perform. I really only download movies and music albums .. and rarely software. So in that case, as you said, newsgroup might work out for me. I just dread the monthly fees I have to pay for newsgroup. Gotta figure out my budget.
