Thanks | |

| Re: Yak sign up? Be careful with Yak. I have Teksavvy for phone and internet and they've screwed up my line so that I cannot dial longdistance at all. They tell me that Bell has placed a block on my like and Teksavvy is saying that Yak's system is not updated. I've had no LD since the switch and am frustrated. Any suggesions? | |

| Re: Yak sign up? Yak seems to have a problem with Teksavvy or just resellers in general. I spoke to a supervisor who said she could not find Teksavvy in their database. The said my line was bell but it's a reseller of bell. Not happy here. I've been using skype for LD but it's not the best. | |

| Re: Yak sign up? timc. Your best bet is use telehop numbers. Dial code before and it will be charged to your Teksavvy Bill. like 1010100 or 1010YAK (whatever the code is) I used 1010100 it was like 4 cents. Yake is like 3.5 Cents. theres many. Otherwise teksavvy's charge is liek 10 Cents a minute. | |

| Re: Yak sign up? www.worldline.ca
The parents have been using it for over 3 years now. All you have to do is dial an access number then the 10 digit number you want to reach. For 3.95$/mnt it gives you unlimited Canadian LD anytime. Beats Bell's Simplitel plans all the way. I think now, you can register 2 numbers for that price, therefor, if you have a cell phone, it can work for both.

| Re: Yak sign up? Just curious, why not go with a full VoIP provider and an ATA?
I use Call Centric (callcentric.com) and love them. $.02/min anywhere in North America, fax reception by email, nationwide access numbers so you can get your $.02 rate at payphones and such. Voicemails to email, etc, etc, and only $1.95/mo for your own DID (phone number).
And their account management website interface is second to none. I swear I don't work for them or anything, I just put them right up there with Teksavvy. Prob my two favorite companies right now.

| Re: Yak sign up? I tried Concentric. I was given a 1777 internal number. Interestingly, the voice quality was very poor for 416 and 905 calls. When a call goes to other areas, it seems to work fine. I have changed different codecs but still with no difference. I'm not sure if this is your experience. | |

| I had problems with Call Centric I trialed Call Centric for 1 month with a 647 DID using a PAP2T ATA. While the outgoing calling was great, I had incoming call problems from others callers in Canada, particularly during peak times at night. This would result in incoming calls getting a busy signal (not system busy). Sometimes it was necessary to call my number 10 times before it rang. I was able to consistently reproduce the problem many times. Their support eventually gave up, and so I ditched the test DID. I suspect their upstream provider for Canada stinks. I also had a few problems dialing Japan with them.
Their dashboard is excellent, as you described.
I'm now testing Unlimitel using TrixBox and IAX2. SOLID!

I thought about VoIP at first but it would cost like $150 in activation/installation fee with Dry DSL, or is the jack installation included with Dry DSL?

| Re: Yak sign up? said by Jean_22 :I thought about VoIP at first but it would cost like $150 in activation/installation fee with Dry DSL, or is the jack installation included with Dry DSL? ??? The activation fee on TSI's site is $19.99. You will get one jack installed, in a place of Bell Canada's choosing (probably outdoors on the hydro meter) as a demarcation point, if you bug the technician. It isn't hard to install your own wiring after that. If you're lazy, one of those 100 ft. telephone extension cords would do (although it will play hell with your stats).
If you're lucky, you'll be in an apartment or older townhouse, in which case you'll have the demarcation point indoors.

| So if I call 1-700-555-4141 and it tells me that my long distance is still provided by Yak, is that all I need to know? I don't want to call them up and have them fix it if it ain't broke. Especially considering the issues that some on this forum have had. | |

| Since people are discussing this, what's your experience like with Yak LD?
I pretty much need to park my LD service somwhere for "just in case situations", been using VoIP for LD otherwise...
I have been using 3WEB's Simple 7 for the last 3 years or so...with how little I make use of it, it's fine, but I do have to send email after email once in a while to get credited back for one minute incompleted calls....

| Re: Yak sign up? Yak has been just fine with me for the past couple of weeks I've been with them. I never had any problems with Bell long distance either, other than the cost. Most recently, I had long distance from Rogers, but their costs slowly crept up to be the same as Bell's. | |
