Re: Atlanta Skyline Pics

I checked out your other picts on flicker.

What impressed me most is you knew what most of the buildings were I used to know many, but with all the name changes and new buildings I'm clueless.

The reflections on the King an Spaulding Building are interesting. I would have tried a polarizer to see if it could be changed.

Notice the haze between Atl and Stone Mountain. I live near the mtn and it is always downwind from Atl. My allergies suffer from it

Interesting all the decoration on top of the Atlantic building. Something few will ever see but they still put it in. That kind a charactr is something those new glass "vertical ice-cube tray" builds lack.

Thanks for the kind words. The haze was actually a lot worse than it looks. I did some post-processing and was able to clean it up a fair amount. I shot in RAW and saved in .jpg later. I've got a fairly sizable "wish-list" of accessories for the camera and a polarizing filter is on the list.

I work across the street from OAC in Atlantic Center Plaza. It's a nice building, but not quite the same build quality as OAC.

I've attached an un-processed copy of the original here.

Polarizing filters are interesting. Skies become vivid. I did some abstract photos of of building reflections with very interesting results. You could not tell what the picture was

That image is 10 mpixel! What camera do you have?

I have a Minolta Dimage 7 (the original version.) Does well for my use. Was one of the best "prosumer" ones in its day. Too bad Minolta got out of the biz though. Need to do some more photography.

I saved my pennies (literally) and got a Pentax K10D. Looks like this, only I dont have the attached battery (yet...) Also got a Sigma 70-300mm lens to supplement the kit lens.

Heh, looked at the second pic: "oh, it has an autowinder" No, wait...DOH!

That was one of the problems with the Minota. It sucked batts. I found using a Sandisk UltraII CF card made a world of difference. That and Ultralast batts and now I only recharge once a month. Before batts would last about 8-10 pictures.

looks nice. I would love to have a true SLR digital camera, but not in the budget right now.

I've also got two Canon P&S cameras in the family. For those, I buy the Enerizer rechargables and they have been great! Easily 10X the life of Alkaline batteries per charge and I've got some that are 3-4 years old and still going strong. But, be careful to use the slow chargers as I've found the rapid chargers really suck the lifespan out of them. The pentax has it's internal battery and it's ok, not great though. Maybe 100-150 flash pictures and 500 non-flash.

Same problem with my dImage7... I can shoot about 50 pics on one battery set. What are those batts you mention?

They are called "Ultralast" NiMH 2600MAH. Made by North American Battery Company. Come with a lifetime warranty. I got the first set at Fry's, got two more off ebay.

I have some Panasonic 2000MAH that last about 10 pics beefore the DI7 flags it as dead and shuts down. Still lots of charge left. Looks the the Di7 is over sensitive to batt level.

I do use a smart charger. NiMH need a good charger to work well.

The CF card makes a big diff on batt usage also. Mine came with a 16meg card that would kill that batts in a matter of 2-3 minutes. I had a 32meg that was a little better. The Snadisk UltraII 1 gig card made a huge diff.
