Two Step Guide
1. change router password (decent length password 10+ and a mix of letters U/L, numbers, symbols)
2. use WPA or WPA2 wifi security, grc site used is excellent.
Rest is an exercise in router and OS manipulation practice.
As far as disabling SSID, thats bad advice.
