| ADSL 2 NOW IN LEXINGTON SAYS AD In today's Sunday edition of the Lexington Herald Leader newspaper I found a color Windstream ad that says that the 12 meg speed is now ready in Lexington. The ad says that 3, 6 and the new 12 meg speeds are $19.99 for the first 6 months. It says now even faster speeds available in your neighborhood. It also says Windstream has increased their broadband speeds. So according to this ad ADSL 2 has finally arrived in Lexington! | |

I'm currently paying $35 for the 6 meg.
How do you check on the website to see if your area has the new speeds?

Does it say anything about upload?

1 edit | OK I just called and ordered the 12mb. It is $45/mo, and if you get Greenstreak the whole package is $50 per month. I tried to get the 19.99 promo but he would not give it to me, even after saying I would sign a 1 year contract, etc. He said he looked it up and there are no $19.99 promos in Lexington.

I'll put in my order later this week. I just checked and it is listed as being available to me on Windstream.com. It wasn't listed yesterday. How long does it take to get upgraded?
Also does anyone know how the bundles for phone/internet work?
I have the connect unlimited phone plan, and 6 meg fiber broadband right now. On the bill it shows $44.99 for the phone, and $34.99 for the fiber before taxes, fees, etc... Also is the $4.99 protection plan normal on your bill? I don't remember signing up for it, and have no clue what it does. I looked online and it says there is a connect unlimited/broadband bundle for $64.98. It says it includes any Broadband package. I guess I need to call them and see if that includes the 6 meg I have now, or even the 12. Looking at the web and then at my bill I got today it really looks like I'm paying more than I should.

Instead of the modem holding the username and password, they are held by the aggrigator at the main exchange Redback routers. New customers cam make up their own login and password, and the helpdesk can now log into youre 4200 for trouble shooting issues. This software is identical to the new 2wire networking units. The setup so far only works for windows2000, xp, and vista, and not on Mac's either. These new modems are going to all adsl2 customers, and new customers.

1 edit | Re: ADSL 2 NOW IN LEXINGTON SAYS AD Guy I talked to on the phone was pretty clueless about ADSL2. He told me at first 6 meg was as fast as it went, but quickly said they had 12 meg for $49.99 a month. A few mins later he said it was $44.99 a month and I could get it for the first 6 months for $19.99 even though I wasn't a new customer.
I was going to sign up, but they have put a hold on all 12 meg upgrades until tomorrow morning. He said they got the information that none can be entered until then. I told him thanks, and I would call back in the morning. He said they would need to send me a new modem, but after I explained I was on fiber he said I should just reset my Linksys, and the upgrade should only take about 24 hours.
So who knows what I'll end up with tomorrow. Going to call tomorrow afternoon when I get back from registering for my Fall 2008 classes.

| One cool thing now, 3 meg customers are being over provisioned at 3.54 meg to give a true 3 meg speed, no word yet on 1.5 meg customers. Another cool thing i noticed today, on vacant dsl pins, my test set will train up at about 8, or 9 meg, which is the raw bandwidth feeding that node, today it trained up at 24 meg, I was stunned. | |

| Yesterday and today I have been in contact with Windstream trying to find out if I can be upgraded to the 6 or 12 speed from my current 3 meg. I have been told that 3 meg is all my area can get at this time. I was told that my local wire center on Wilson Downing Road is not ready to handle 6 or 12 meg speeds. They said a tech did a field test and said the Wilson Downing office can only handle up to 3 meg. Is it really true that the Wilson Downing office can't handle any speed above 3 meg? I feel like Windstream is telling me what was available with the old adsl technology and not looking at what is available with the new adsl 2 technology. Could it be that not all of the Wilson Downing office service areas have been upgraded for the new speeds yet? | |

I currently have 6 meg though, and they want to make sure the 12 meg will come in good before they offer it to me. They told me if it didn't work they would set it back to 6 meg, and my monthly bill want change.
Who knows...

1 edit | Re: ADSL 2 NOW IN LEXINGTON SAYS AD Well that might be my case. I have fiber and the 6 meg package. However everytime they pull up the info for my area it says 3 meg only.
I really don't know. I knew I'd have problems upgrading to the 12 meg package, because of the trouble I had to get the 6 meg.
I hope it goes though. They are actually sending out people to test the lines in my area to see if I can get 12 meg. They said it might take 48 hours to do everything, and if I don't have any upgrades by Monday to call them. Not trying to sound down on Windstream, because my service has been very good, and the packages are well priced, but I can almost bet I'll have to call on Monday.
I guess it could be as simple as my area isn't ready for ADSL2. I'm not sure though. However if I put my phone number into the Windstream.com website the highest package is 3 meg. However I've had the 6 meg for a few months with no problems and excellent speeds.
Is there anything I should ask about if I have to call again? I know fiber can go faster than 6 meg. The fiber help desk was just afraid that since it says only 3 meg on their computers that if they give me the 12 meg it might not work right. That was their whole reason to get the lines tested, etc...
