Yep I had to take my laptop and hook it straight to the modem so there where no other network stuff to interfere with the upgrade.....after that it upgraded fine.. -- Windstream DSL 3000/384 SS 4200(briged) WRT54GL WDS to 3 WRT54G's as wireless repeaters all running Tomato(v1.18) 8 boxes 4 wired, 4 wireless. I connected directly to my PC no network gear in the chain and I still could not get it to upgrade. I will try to upgrade it again if no luck I will wait for the new modem 4200 to show up in 3 to five days. |

1 edit | Guy I talked to on the phone was pretty clueless about ADSL2. He told me at first 6 meg was as fast as it went, but quickly said they had 12 meg for $49.99 a month. A few mins later he said it was $44.99 a month and I could get it for the first 6 months for $19.99 even though I wasn't a new customer.
I was going to sign up, but they have put a hold on all 12 meg upgrades until tomorrow morning. He said they got the information that none can be entered until then. I told him thanks, and I would call back in the morning. He said they would need to send me a new modem, but after I explained I was on fiber he said I should just reset my Linksys, and the upgrade should only take about 24 hours.
So who knows what I'll end up with tomorrow. Going to call tomorrow afternoon when I get back from registering for my Fall 2008 classes. |

Just put my 4200 back in "router" mode till the upgrade comes through The new 4200 modems have the new firmware upgrades and also contain WS's "walled garden setup software. Instead of the modem holding the username and password, they are held by the aggrigator at the main exchange Redback routers. New customers cam make up their own login and password, and the helpdesk can now log into youre 4200 for trouble shooting issues. This software is identical to the new 2wire networking units. The setup so far only works for windows2000, xp, and vista, and not on Mac's either. These new modems are going to all adsl2 customers, and new customers. |

| reply to dsl in lexington One cool thing now, 3 meg customers are being over provisioned at 3.54 meg to give a true 3 meg speed, no word yet on 1.5 meg customers. Another cool thing i noticed today, on vacant dsl pins, my test set will train up at about 8, or 9 meg, which is the raw bandwidth feeding that node, today it trained up at 24 meg, I was stunned. |

join:2001-09-24 Tiger, GA | reply to dsl in lexington Shadow, will the speed upgrade require a "modem re-boot" or will the provisioning show up automatically?. |

| I'm guessing automatically, when our tac center changes provisioning on the pin, the modem, or our test gear will lose synch, then retrain at the new speed. Check youre SNR on the speedstream from time to time and see if it has changed yet. When you get youre new 4200, you will have to go through the new setup software that is built into the unit. As far as i know there is no way around it. once you plug in the new modem, click on IE, then the browser will automatically be redirected to the setup screen, which resembles the old setup cd's. Once you are through the setup, normal internet functions will be back, including the 192.168.254.254. This setup is the same for anyone who switches over to WS's 2wire combo units. |

| I thought you were, if the firmware was upgraded then i wouldnt worry about it. But we are replacing all of the old 4200's with the new as people upgrade. The biggest difference now like I said before, is the router/aggregator now holds youre login/password, not the modem. This will give the helpdesk a better idea of trouble issues, now that they can log into youre modem and monitor it. Right now its day 2 of a whole new system and there will be a few growing pains along with it, but exciting none the less. |

@alltel.net | I was also told that my 4200 would work with the new speeds but would require the new firmware update. I got my 4200 in January 2007. Could someone out there please provide information on where to find the new firmware update. Thank you. |
