Well I was supposed to be upgraded by 5 today, and I still don't have the 12 meg package.
Really doesn't surprise me. They had problems upgrading me to the 6 meg earlier this year. Even though I have a fiber install their computers pull my phone number up as only being able to get 3 meg. After a few calls to the fiber help desk they were able to upgrade me to 6 meg. I figure I'll have to go though the same thing to get the 12 meg.
I hope I can get the 12 meg. I'm going to call tomorrow and check on it. If not I'm happy with my 6 meg I get now. |

| Called this afternoon and the help desk says it still hasn't been upgraded, but should have been up yesterday. He said that he thought they were a little behind on upgrades, and he would send a message over to the department and see if they can get my upgrade "pushed though".
He told me if I don't see the 12 meg package by tomorrow to call them back. |

| Well they have sent my order to engineering to make sure I can get 12. Even though I am a fiber customer I might not be able to get it. They told me fiber should get up to 24 meg, but my area was only showing 3 meg available.
I currently have 6 meg though, and they want to make sure the 12 meg will come in good before they offer it to me. They told me if it didn't work they would set it back to 6 meg, and my monthly bill want change.
Who knows...
They said if I don't see any speed upgrades by Monday afternoon to call them back and see whats going on. |

| I know. It seems like the problem I'm having with this upgrade is the fact that for my area it pulls up as 3 meg being the fastest. It doesn't take into fact that I have fiber at all.
Just odd. I hope the 12 meg goes though, but it may take awhile and a few calls to get it going. |

1 edit | Well that might be my case. I have fiber and the 6 meg package. However everytime they pull up the info for my area it says 3 meg only.
I really don't know. I knew I'd have problems upgrading to the 12 meg package, because of the trouble I had to get the 6 meg.
I hope it goes though. They are actually sending out people to test the lines in my area to see if I can get 12 meg. They said it might take 48 hours to do everything, and if I don't have any upgrades by Monday to call them. Not trying to sound down on Windstream, because my service has been very good, and the packages are well priced, but I can almost bet I'll have to call on Monday.
I guess it could be as simple as my area isn't ready for ADSL2. I'm not sure though. However if I put my phone number into the Windstream.com website the highest package is 3 meg. However I've had the 6 meg for a few months with no problems and excellent speeds.
Is there anything I should ask about if I have to call again? I know fiber can go faster than 6 meg. The fiber help desk was just afraid that since it says only 3 meg on their computers that if they give me the 12 meg it might not work right. That was their whole reason to get the lines tested, etc... |

1 edit | reply to dsl in lexington wanna hear something crazy. my boss has had cable internet for a year and a half now. he was saying it was amazing how fast he could download .iso images from microsoft. being a msdn partner. i told him you did know insight offers a 20Mb download service right ???.... he said he had NO idea. so he called insight, talked to someone in louisville, kentucky. they switched him to the 20Mb service over the phone. we didn't even have to reboot the modem.

| reply to dsl in lexington My new modem showed up yesterday. I was supposed to be up in running within twenty four hours with 12Mbps service. No dice. I just called in to tech support and they were of no assistance. I was told to call the billing office and they would be able to help me. This is starting to have overtones of the problems that I had trying to upgrade to 6Mbps service. i hope I do not have to go through all of that hassle again. -- Definition of T.A.S: Technology Acquisition Syndrome |

| reply to dsl in lexington Well, I'm in Lexington (SC, not KY) and upgraded from the 3MB to the 12MB tier. The order was completed yesterday, but my 4200 (with the latest firmware) still shows the 3MB provision. I called India (aka tech support) last night and they had me factory reset the modem and reconfigure it. It still shows 3MB. Tech support said to sit back, wait and it will pick up the new speed. I called the order center this morning and they show it as complete.
Any advice as to what I should do next? Should I keep hounding tech support or is there some other department to call that actually knows what is going on? |

2 edits | reply to dsl in lexington Ordered on Monday, they were supposed to ship me a modem.. said it would take a couple days and I still have not received my modem. Further, my 4100 is still synced, which makes me question if I have been provisioned either.
What a mess. I haven't seen one single person post a speedtest or proof that they were actually upgraded.
Epic Fail. |

| Not that this makes anyone feel any better, but the new software that implemented this past weekend is still having major issues. All of the new upgrades are having to be done manually, where before the automated system handled the majority of provisioning. Even us field techs are running into problems with everyday dsl installs, and troubles. Just a little more patience please. |

| Shadow, I work in IT, I understand how it is when things just don't work. Believe me I feel for you guys.
At the same time, my users are never happy with us if we provide them service like this, and as customers neither is this acceptable from a major telco.
I respect you and your coworkers for the job you do.. this problem is higher than you I think. |

| I was interested in trying out the new 12mb connection as I game and download torrents often. However, after reading all of the testimonials I'll hold off and stick with my 6MB connection until all the kinks are worked out of the new 12mb connection. |

| reply to dsl in lexington I was upgraded today to 6MB, about 10 minutes after the phone call my DSL quit working... I have a SpeedStream 5100 and the internal webpage displays I was locked in at the higher rate but would not connect PPPoE. My SNR changed from 20 to 6. Not sure what is going on now. The modem is back down to 3MB but when I call about the ticket it says it will be completed tomorrow... Talked to three people today and they all say the 5100 would work. 3MB is the highest that was ever available. The sales person said one computer said 12MB was available for my address but the other said 6MB just like the website lists. Sales said someone would have to change something to a different switch and would take awhile longer because of this. Ten minutes later, poof no connection... Glad I have a connection back, just wish I knew what was going on. |
