redblkjck : guess it is back to 3MB... The 6MB is nice but the modem will not stay consistent in the evening hours, after 8PM. They sent out another truck this AM but by then the signal was fine by then. The tech said he thinks I am too far out to pull 6MB even on DSL2. The dsl page is full of crc errors and the rate fluctuates between 7100000 and 5500000. There are packet failures on almost every hop. During the morning and afternoon hours everything seems fine. On 3MB, there has not been much of a problem, day or night. So in the AM I will going to track down the local office to get it knocked back down. I can't handle another phone call to India tech support. After last nights call I about canceled my service and switched to cable modem/phone. It is just downright insulting...

Someone came out today and took some line measurements, went back and switched me over to DSL2. Replaced the modem with SpeedStream 4100; went back thru an activation process and all is good again. After the activation using the PPPoE within the modem, I was able to reset and use my router PPPoE. The logon user name changed, had to add @windstream.net to my logon. Need to test some new tweaks but I am getting near full 6MB. SNR is staying around 6, while the attenuation is between 49 and 51.

They are actually sending out people to test the lines in my area to see if I can get 12 meg. They said it might take 48 hours to do everything, and if I don't have any upgrades by Monday to call them. Not trying to sound down on Windstream, because my service has been very good, and the packages are well priced, but I can almost bet I'll have to call on Monday.

I guess it could be as simple as my area isn't ready for ADSL2. I'm not sure though. However if I put my phone number into the Windstream.com website the highest package is 3 meg. However I've had the 6 meg for a few months with no problems and excellent speeds.

Is there anything I should ask about if I have to call again? I know fiber can go faster than 6 meg. The fiber help desk was just afraid that since it says only 3 meg on their computers that if they give me the 12 meg it might not work right. That was their whole reason to get the lines tested, etc...

Check youre SNR on the speedstream from time to time and see if it has changed yet. When you get youre new 4200, you will have to go through the new setup software that is built into the unit. As far as i know there is no way around it. once you plug in the new modem, click on IE, then the browser will automatically be redirected to the setup screen, which resembles the old setup cd's. Once you are through the setup, normal internet functions will be back, including the 192.168.254.254. This setup is the same for anyone who switches over to WS's 2wire combo units.

I don't remember signing up for it, and have no clue what it does. I looked online and it says there is a connect unlimited/broadband bundle for $64.98. It says it includes any Broadband package.
anon : In today's Sunday edition of the Lexington Herald Leader newspaper I found a color Windstream ad that says that the 12 meg speed is now ready in Lexington. The ad says that 3, 6 and the new 12 meg speeds are $19.99 for the first 6 months. It says now even faster speeds available in your neighborhood. It also says Windstream has increased their broadband speeds. So according to this ad ADSL 2 has finally arrived in Lexington! :) :)
