Question about SSL VPN

i want to buy a ssl vpn router so i can use it to surf the web when i am away at work, so i want to know if it can route the internet traffic through the tunnel to access the WWW like a ordinay pptp VPN router will do , or do it just do intranet traffic only? Do most of them use activeX exclusively to establish the tunnel, do it mean that they are not supporting OSX or linux? i know some can use so called vpn web proxy, like draytek 2950 and do not need to install activex plugin & could it be used to surf the net through the vpn web proxy?

SSL clients don't use activex/java to initiate the vpn tunnel, but just to install/launch the client on your computer. Most of them also allow you to browse through a web-portal style proxy in your browser, which at that point all your web traffic would be sent over the vpn. If you have a spare computer, you could build your own:
