Triple Play - Phone

I have CC HSI and Cable and I'm thinking of adding phone service in Ocean County NJ. I have Verizon and while it works great the cost is a lot higher than CC. Anyone have ideas, advice or words of warning? Any reviews on CC voice and their customer service - installtion?

As with any service, you'll get negatives and positives. Mine has been positive as I haven't experienced so much as a hiccup since the install.

As far as installation, the typical install includes replacing your current modem with a MTA that does both internet and phone and backfeeding dial tone through a phone jack to the rest of the jacks in your home.

If you own your own modem, they may install the MTA somewhere close to the main phone junction in your house.

I haven't had a hitch with the phone either here in Pittsburgh. Everytime I go to use the phone it works with no issues.

You might be able to get a good deal on your package price when you add phone service. So do ask if you can get any promos (limited time, usually a year).

Last week I added phone service to my TV and HSI, and ended up paying less for all three than what TV and HSI alone cost me. It's even cheaper than the advertised triple-play packages.

Installation was done in 30mins. I live in an apartment, so technician just had to check signal levels before replacing modem with an MTA, and he installed one box with 2 outlets (existing wiring is used for internal building phone system). More than enough for me, I plugged in 1 cordless phone and I have an extra socket for future expansion.
ALTHOUGH I had a problem with the new modem's registration (Comcast screwed up which modem was active on my account), my Internet stopped shorty after the technician left, but after several calls and about 6 hours later I was back online.

Phone service has been excellent for the past week, not long enough to judge I guess . But I already got 2 telemarketers calling. I need to check how I can get my # unlisted ... I haven't had the time to explore all the features/options yet.

Not at this time.

However, if you already have cable service, you can pick up a self installation kit for CDV at your local Comcast payment center.

What if I have a comcast tech install it, then buy one on ebay two weeks later? The $3 monthly fee seems silly if you can buy an Arris TM502G or even a motorola SBV5220 for under $20 on eBay. I'm guessing its not as simple as giving a comcast rep the new modems MAC... is it?

They won't activate it.

If you find a MTA like the ones Comcast use on ebay for $20, then it is likely stolen. They are a couple of hundred dollars new.

Insight gave us our MTAs for free (with no contract or monthly fee), but they Comcast just started charging us a $3/mo fee for the MTA "rental". It ought to be interesting when I call them up and tell them the MTA is mine, and that Insight gave it to me, and they shouldn't be charging me this rental fee.

I'm confused. Did Insight lend you the EMTA's with no monthly fees, or did they give you (as in keep, even if you canceled the service), for free?

If it's the former, then your EMTA now is property of Comcast and will be billed at $3/mo. If it's the latter, then I'm sure Comcast is aware of this and may have a special package in their system for customers who own their EMTA and will price it out at $0.00/mo.
