U-Verse in South Florida - Summer 2008

Just spoke to the AT&T technician who finished scaling up the telephone pole. We live in the 33156 zip code and according to him, U-Verse will go live this summer. I observed and he confirmed them digging just outside the CO.

I'm not crazy about U-Verse but anything is better than the 6Mbps/512Kbps that DSL gets us.

I really had it good when we lived in NYC. Our building had 15Mbps/15Mbps wireless access for $50/month. No joke!

I really hope that South Florida will get U-Verse by Summer of this year. I welcome it.

Oh goody.

Is it possible for my neighborhood to go from V-RADless to live in the next 5 months?

Sure. The fastest I've seen is about a month from the time they set the cabinet.

Don't hold your breath. My Bell contact tells me that they may do a trial neighborhood launch this year, but mass SE FL deployments would not begin until 2009 at the earliest.

So then when theres an announcement that a state has signed a franchise agreement and U-Verse will be in that state by the end of the year or the next year, the what constitutes "in that state"?

What does trial neighborhood launch mean? To see if enough people will buy it to warrant further deployment? Sounds like Neilsen ratings. How can a few thousand people be an accurate sample of millions of people?

You said SE Florida. Does that mean more affluent areas will get it first? Like SW Florida?
